Gitup Git2 battery only 730mAh but labeled 950mah - False Labelling Debate

Dec. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- A quiet storm has been brewing on several forums regarding the battery life of some Action Cameras on the market. The main rivalry has been between SJCAM and Gitup.  SJCAM’s batteries are labelled as being 900mah while GitUp’s Git1 and Git2 batteries are labelled as being 950mah.

The the GitUp batteries fit inside of the SJCAM Dual Charger perfectly meaning that the the two batteries have the exact same size. At a naked eye, the batteries are the same. If actioncam.prlog.com can get our hands on these batteries we would also measure the size.

We received a photo from a confidential source showing a peeled GitUp battery being tested. The results read “730mah” on whatever kind of battery tester machine it is. This was very surprising to us at actioncam.prlog.com. We expected a wannabe GoPro competitor like GitUp to test their battery’s rating and mAh. Hopefully, they did not knowingly falsely label their batteries as 950mah to make their batteries seem juicier than SJCAM batteries.

Whatever the case, the battery rating is only one thing that affects battery life. Other variables include:

• Sensor Type
• Chipset Type (the more powerful the CPU the more power it uses)
• Screen Size – 2.0″ Screens naturally use up more energy than 1.5″ screens,
• Functions such as Gyro stabilization (a physical chip, not the digital image feature)
• WiFi is on or off
• Other functions that may or be turned off during recording.

It is very important when comparing two different cameras for battery life that you consider all the above variables. Otherwise, it would be like comparing a Rolls Royce Phantom to a Volkswagon Beetle – the latter is sure to burn through a lot less fuel.
