Dec. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- Edward G. Mahon, adjunct professor at the Kent State College of Business Administration, vice president for Information Services and chief information officer at Kent State University published his book titled “Transitioning the Enterprise to the Cloud: A Business Approach.”

Mahon is responsible for the enterprise-wide architecture and operations of the information technology systems in place at Kent State University, as well as the overall vision for the university's information technology environment in the future. Mohan is also responsible for developing and executing an enterprise information technology strategy that supports the university’s strategic goals.

As an adjunct professor, Mahon will be teaching a graduate level course at the College of Business Administration including Globalization and Technology Strategy, with topics including Business Intelligence/Analytics, Cloud Architecture & Cloud Marketplace, Cost Accounting and Technology Fiscal Management.

Written by a practitioner for a practitioner, “Transitioning the Enterprise to the Cloud: A Business Approach” focuses on identifying the costs, complexities, risks and benefits necessary to build a complete cloud sourcing strategy.

The structure of this book is organized into five main parts:

Part 1: Frames the conundrum the cloud presents.
Part 2: Provides a business perspective of the cloud.
Part 3: Outlines how and what to assess in your current technology environment.
Part 4: Suggests several potential cloud transition scenarios.
Part 5: Develops a cloud sourcing strategy.

“An inconsistency exists between actual cloud adoption rates and the viewpoints and direct actions of those responsible for corporate information technology operations,” said Mahon. “On the one hand, information technology (IT) leaders generally believe the cloud more easily enables the implementation and management of technology services, from web and mobile application development to on-demand computing and storage. These leaders also appreciate the cloud’s consumption-based pricing model over their current capital-intensive cost structures.”

Edward Mahon knows how to assess and enhance information technologies in business. Mahon’s book provides a much needed system to uncover and evaluate the cloud transition process to help grow and develop the technology decisions of businesses and organizations.

Mahon has held executive information technology leadership positions for two decades.  As a longtime chief information officer, he has managed the development and impact of information technology trends and innovations. Mahon has also designed new ways of driving value from information technology investments.

Mahon’s experience includes direct information technology management spanning several industries. His ongoing engagement with executive officers, technologists, and business leaders provides him with a rich perspective of how to manage change and lead the way through the ever-changing and fast-paced world of business and information technology.
