Dec. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- Students and members of the College of Business Administration in Kent State’s Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE) chapter attended the 2015 North Central Regional Convention hosted for the first time by Kent State University at the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center on Nov. 20 and 21, 2015.

PSE is a nonprofit co-ed professional fraternity that strives for the advancement of sales, marketing and management professions. Providing practical business experience through sales, sales projects, marketing research and community service projects, there are more than 50 chapters and approximately 50,000 members nationwide.

Joined by common values and the PSE pledge, members of the business fraternity attended the convention, which included the Pro-Am Sell-a-Thon, National Speaker's competition, business development seminars, networking opportunities and several notable speakers.

Randall Keller, field director at Northwestern Mutual, provided personal finance management guidance, prompting several questions and subsequent discussions from the audience. Representing Tom James Company, Regional Manager Joshua Smith stressed the importance of “Dressing for Success” and maintaining your personal image in business environments. Participants who attended the speakers were entered into two drawings to win an Amazon tablet.

Keynote speaker Shon Christy provided insight related to his 20 years of experience in the marketing field, discussing the unique value of social media marketing. Christy told the audience “attention is the new currency” and “the power is in the connections” to emphasize the importance of proper personal branding on social media sites. He is also a successful entrepreneur. Christy developed a full-service social media marketing agency, Christy Creative, LLC, to build brands by creating strategic messaging. Inspired by his 3-year old son, Beckett, he most recently launched a fundraising group to support those with Down syndrome called Beckett’s Buddies.

Events like the North Central Regional Convention allow students to engage and interact with business professionals outside of the classroom. Ellen Daniels, Pi Sigma Epsilon advisor for Kent State University, summarized the success of the event, “Kent State was represented well at this event by our students’   professionalism and the exceptional facilities at the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center. The excellency of our students was noted by multiple businesses in attendance.”
