CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Nov. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- With the thousands of horses neglected in the state of North Carolina, HPS saves taxpayer dollars by answering calls, educating owners, and getting involved before local animal control officers seize horses.

Each December the horse sanctuary raises awareness and needed funds by selling calendars showcasing their 40 rescues at the sanctuary before finding forever homes. Their hope is to get on the radar of future supporters and hopeful volunteers willing to drive to China Grove, North Carolina to help care for these horses at the non-profit. The organization remains challenged due to the summer drought resulting in a drastic increase for the cost of hay this winter, as well as the need to cover the expense of veterinary care to help rehabilitate previously starved horses.

HPS has experienced volunteer trainers to help interested volunteer members learn the correct ground work, grooming and tack maintenance when they volunteer 14-16 hours a month.  This helps their rescues to overcome potential fears of being ridden and allows their personalities to shine through before being matched with an appropriate home.

Interview Opportunity:

Robyn Martin began volunteering with HPS when her daughter fell in love with horses as a little girl, and both mom and daughter continue to volunteer with HPS after 8 years of dedicated weekends at the sanctuary. Robyn can talk to your audiences about the thousands of horses needing a home in North Carolina and the training program. She can share the personalities of the horses showcased in 2016 calendars. Everyone is invited out on Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm to visit HPS to see how donations directly help rescued horses.
