More than 1,900 lots of United States, Chinese and Worldwide Banknotes, Coins, Scripophily and security printing ephemera will be sold by Archives International Auctions in Fort Lee, N.J. on Friday, December 11th and Monday, December 14th.

FORT LEE, N.J. - Nov. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- More than 1,900 lots of United States, Chinese and Worldwide Banknotes, Coins, Scripophily (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/AIA-XXX-in-3-Sessions-U-S-WW-Banknotes-Scripophily-and-Coins_a26607?m=all) and security printing ephemera will be sold by Archives International Auctions in Fort Lee, N.J. on Friday, December 11th and Monday, December 14th.

“We are excited to offer Part 2 of the Alexander I. Pogrebetsky collection of rare Chinese and Asian banknotes, including the first portion of the Pogrebetsky Russian Banknote Reference Collection as well as many outstanding consignments that include U.S. railroad bonds, obsolete banknotes, U.S. and worldwide banknotes, coins, and security printing ephemera from various consignors,” said Dr. Robert Schwartz, the president of Archives International Auctions.

Dr. Schwartz added, “We are also fortunate to offer a considerable amount of fresh material that has either never been offered previously at auction or has been off the market for over 60 years and is certain to generate excitement in the chase for that elusive banknote, stock certificate or coin.”

Start times for the first two sessions will be 10:30 a.m. EST. For those unable to attend, online bidding (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/auctionlist.aspx) will be offered on the AIA website: www.ArchivesInternational.com. Phone and absentee bids will also be accepted. A third session, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 14th, will begin no earlier than 3 p.m. EST after the Chinese and Asian sale is concluded. It will be an internet-only sale, with all items pictured online, with no printed catalog.

Session I (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/AIA-XXX-in-3-Sessions-U-S-WW-Banknotes-Scripophily-and-Coins_as39938), slated for Friday, December 11th, will begin with worldwide banknotes, to include additional selections from the Arthur Matz collection of modern banknotes. The highlights from the Matz collections include numerous lots of modern British Colonies, with multiple examples of different series and signatures from Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, the East Caribbean States (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/East-Caribbean-Central-Bank-1993-ND-Issue_i23714797), Cyprus (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/Central-bank-of-Cyprus-5-Pound-issues-by-type-and-date_i23714786) and numerous other countries.

Highlights from the balance of the worldwide banknote session will include a previously unlisted Argentina 1888 specimen note, Colonia Ocampo by BW&C; and two different Australian replacement banknotes, one from 1953 and the second one from 1966; a lovely 1905 Danish West Indies $5 (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/National-Bank-of-the-Danish-West-Indies-1905-Issue_i23714788) banknote; two different 1720 Banque Royal “John Law” (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/La-Banque-Royale-1720-First-or-Second-Issue-Note-John-Law-Issue_i23714830) notes; and Greek rarities, such as an 1885 National Bank of Greece specimen. Haiti is highlighted by two complete sheets of ten specimen notes each of 1 and 2 Gourdes, Banque De La Republique D’Haiti, 1919 provisional issue banknotes by ABNC; a discovery 1898 Republica De Chile Provisional Issue (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/Republica-De-Chile-1898-Provisional-Issue-Rarity-Discovery-Note_i23714773) note, possibly one of a kind; and a spectacular United Arab Emirates Currency Board specimen set consisting of five banknotes along with hundreds of desirable banknotes in single and group lots will be offered.

We are also privileged to offer Part 1 of the Alexander I. Pogrebetsky reference collection of Russian banknotes, with many scarce and rare issues, including local and private issuers seldom seen at auction that will be included in all three sessions.

There are over 130 desirable lots in the sale of scripophily (the collecting of stocks and bonds), with highlights including a circa 1900 Massachusetts specimen stock certificate with a Santa Claus (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/National-Rockland-Bank-of-Boston-Specimen-Share-Certificate-Ca-1910-1920s-with-Charming-Santa-Clau_i23715174) vignette; a Bodie Bluff Mining Company (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/Bodie-Bluff-Consolidated-Gold-Mining-Co-1879-Issued-Stock-Certificate_i23715204) certificate dated 1879 (one of 14 different rare mining stocks being offered); over 60 railroad stocks and bonds, including a unique Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Rail Road Co. specimen dated 1877; a Columbus Zoological Company (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/The-Columbus-Zoological-Company-1903-Issued-Stock-Certificate_i23715308) issued stock certificate dated 1903 plus two other zoo-related certificates; and numerous other topics and desirable certificates.

A recent find of historic security printer advertising cards, some never seen before, including an American Bank Note Co., Cincinnati (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/American-Bank-Note-Co-Cincinnati-Business-Ad-Card_i23715375), ca.1860s, business card with allegorical Liberty vignette, are being offered in the first session, as are dozens of other interesting and rare security Printer items. Also to be offered will be U.S. colonial, obsolete, Confederate and Fractional currency as well as large and small type notes as well as depression scrip; a U.S. FRN, $5, 1914, Fr.846 (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/FRN-Boston-5-1914-Fr-846-Burke-Houston_i23715533) in PMG Gem Unc 65 is one of the highlight notes. The first session will end with a group of U.S. Liberty Loans, including a Liberty Loan bond of 1917 (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/Liberty-Loan-Bond-of-1917-3-Bond-of-1932-1947-issued-June-15-1917_i23715595), plus other desirable bonds.

Session II (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/AIA-XXX-in-3-Sessions-U-S-WW-Banknotes-Scripophily-and-Coins_as39990), on Monday, Dec. 14th beginning at 10:30 a.m., EST will feature Chinese and Asian banknotes, scripophily and coins, to include Part 2 of the Alexander I. Pogrebetsky family archives of rare Chinese and Asian banknotes. Also offered will be the “Shanghai Banker’s Collection” of rare Chinese banknotes that were given to an American missionary in 1947 before the Communist takeover and forgotten for close to 60 years until his children stumbled upon it while cleaning out his house. Included are many notes that are rarely seen in any form at auction, as well spectacular rarities and discovery notes.

Highlights from the Pogrebetsky collection will include five different Ch’ing Dynasty (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/Ch-ing-Dynasty-1858-Issue_i23715646), 1858 and 1859 cash notes; a beautiful Imperial Bank of China 1898 Peking Taels issue (http://auction.archivesinternational.com/Imperial-Bank-of-China-1898-Peking-Branch-Taels-Issue_i23715648); a 1912 “Mukden-Manchuria” $5 Branch issue rarity; an attractive National Bank of China, 1921 issue rarity; a group of Bank of Territorial Development, Urga issues and other rare banknotes.
