Follow on Google News | No Longer an Apathetic GenerationTwo Hundred and Eighty High School Students Gather for Junior State of America Convention
These future leaders of America engaged in eight blocks of debates, thought talks, solution sessions, and even a mock Supreme Court Case. Debates were focused around the convention theme of “Opportunity and Obstacles: Fulfilling the American Dream”. Students voiced their opinions on issues such as the meaning of the “American Dream” in modern society, the Iran Nuclear Deal, police brutality, Planned Parenthood, corporal punishment, and sexism. Although the media labels the youth of today as the “apathetic generation”, the Junior State of America provides students an opportunity to express their thoughts on issues that are relevant to modern society. These Junior Statesmen are encouraged to open their minds and listen to the diverse views of those from all around their state. Delegates then take home this experience to fight apathy in their own communities.
