'Lunch Break Feminist Club' is selected for the Hollywood & Vine Film Festival

LOS ANGELES - Nov. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- 'Lunch Break Feminist Club' is a webseries developed to discuss feminist topics in a quirky and ironic way through the eyes of a haphazard and wildly inappropriate feminist club.  This is one of five web-series to be screened at the HVFF festival.

Co-creator and series actress Natasha Halevi says, "’Lunch Break Feminist Club’ was developed somewhat accidentally as [co-stars] Olivia, Rebecca and I sat around one day trying to come up with some understanding of what modern feminism really meant. We couldn't really agree on a definition and couldn't find a Googleable definition that didn't seem antiquated."

When describing what LBFC tries to capture, Rebekah Alexander, co-creator and actress, referred back to a quote she had written down recently, “Feminism is the belief that all people are entitled to the same civil rights and liberties and can be intellectual equals regardless of gender. However, you should still hold the door for a feminist; this is known as respect or politeness and need have nothing whatever to do with gender discrimination.”

Halevi goes on to say, "The worst part was having this realization that although I believed in being a strong woman, I was actually a terrible feminist!”  The idea of the terrible feminist is a driving force for the show, as the feminist club seems to actually have everything half-backwards and a little bit wrong.  “It is an in-your-face outward expression of how confusing feminism can be,” Halevi stated.  This idea is what brought about the tag-line, “’cause feminism is hard.”

The show was created by Natasha Halevi, Rebekah Alexander and Olivia Dudek.  Guest stars include Jessica Lenz and Annie Bond who also contributed to the content development of their respective episodes. Jeff Goodlund brings music to the show as the composer and Victoria Carrillo provides sound along with a special appearance in the topless episode.

The sampling of episodes to be shown at HVFF includes episodes related to current news topics, and special Labor Day episode, and even a topless episode dedicated to the Free The Nipple campaign.  When asked about the topless episode, Halevi laughed saying, “ The topless episode was pretty ironic as an actress  - we fight the cliché of being ‘that girl who takes the topless job’ that exploits women for sex.  The topless episode is definitely not about sex and it's actually not very sexy at all! Being topless is a statement of equality.”

The Fourth Annual Hollywood & Vine Festival will take place on December 11-12, 2015. The event is FREE and open to the public. The first day of the festival features the screenings of the accepted entries. The second day of the festival is an industry access forum which includes networking, speakers, filmmaker Q&A and announcement of festival winners.
