Extended gallery hours offer free admission, unique programming, live music, and a full-service bar in partnership with Upstairs; December 3, 5–9 p.m.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Nov. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Free First Thursday Nights invite the Montclair Art Museum’s (MAM’s) entire community to enjoy a night out at the Museum the first Thursday of the month (October–June) from 5 to 9 p.m. The programming includes a dynamic mix of free admission, a full-service bar, live music, and a variety of activities. Offerings change on a monthly basis, providing something new to see and do at every First Thursday Night. The December 3 event will feature a performance by the Newark Boys Chorus and holiday shopping, and will be the last Free First Thursday Night chance to see the current exhibition Eric Carle: Animals and Friends. Free First Thursday Nights are made possible by TD Bank.

The December evening’s musical performances will include the Newark Boys Chorus and Rob Jennings. The Newark Boys Chorus will give a special holiday performance at 6:15 p.m. in MAM’s Leir Hall. After the performance, Rob Jennings will be on acoustic guitar in MAM’s galleries from 7 to 9 p.m.

Just in time for the holidays, The Store at MAM will offer four exciting artist trunk shows at the December Free First Thursday Night. Browse handcrafted jewelry by Lara Knutson, Himalyan hand-embroidered pillows from the collection of Dr. Jay Sethi, and Terry Cody figure vases. Also discover a world of scarves: from soft wools to fine wovens, scarves make a welcome holiday gift. Oil & Vinegar, new to Montclair and now located at 28 S. Park Street, will also do a special tasting for Free First Thursday Night guests and offer holiday gifts for purchase.

Free First Thursday Night staples include a full-service bar, tours, the Yard School of Art Draw Along Workshop, and food trucks. The Art Bar at MAM is now in partnership with Upstairs bar and restaurant and features signature cocktails, wine, and NJ Beer Co. beer at special Free First Thursday Night prices. Museum members receive a discount on all drinks at the bar. A children’s refreshment bar will also be provided by Whole Foods Market Montclair.

The Yard School of Art Draw Along Workshop offers a free session with a clothed model every Free First Thursday Night. Free First Thursday Night tours are offered every hour on the half hour: 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 p.m. This month, tours at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. will feature Eric Carle: Animals and Friends and at 7:30 p.m., the tour will explore Work and Leisure in American Art, an exhibition of the Museum’s permanent collection. The Store at MAM Trunk Show

Lara Knutson Studio hand-crafted jewelry

Lara Knutson is an artist, architect, and industrial designer living and working in New York City. She believes her work is informed by the interplay of light, space, materials and structure that unite these disciplines. Lara’s stunning Nebula Jewelry, made from reflective glass thread, which transforms and reflects ambient light, is sold in design stores and museum shops around the world. Her artwork is in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Himalayan hand-embroidered pillows

Decorative Pillows of Crewel Embroidery are a long-standing tradition in villages on the Himalayan foothills. These artful pillows are made there and imported by retired oncologist Doctor Jay Sethi, whose family roots extend into that region. When you buy a decorative pillow you are helping to support two villages as well as Montclair Art Museum. The people of these villages raise the sheep, shear them, dye the wool, spin the yarn, and do the crewel by hand. The pillows lend a unique decorative and artful touch to any home. Having sold out last year, they are back by popular demand for this holiday season.

A World of Scarves

Luxurious Scarves are always a welcome holiday gift. Choose from our carefully curated selection of soft wools and fine wovens in a wide range of colors, patterns, solids, and flora and fauna themes. Beautiful birds, exotic elephants, and noble equestrian patterns are just some of the choices. Jewel-tone infinity scarves, classic paisley patterns, and subtle grey tones will please both women and men. Add a pair of earrings or a handsome wallet for the ultimate personal present this season.

Terri Cody Figure Vases

Terri is a full-time self-employed artist who lives and works in a small, wheat farming community an hour away from Spokane, Washington. Terri works with low-fire earthenware and uses very bold colors on her amusing Figure Vases. Each piece is finished with a clean, non-toxic glaze. Terri’s work exhibits her sense of humor. She considers it an achievement when her work makes people smile. Her very collectible Figure Vases are sold in museum shops around the country. They make the perfect, one-of-a-kind holiday gift for the art or ceramics lover on your list.
