DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Nov. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- The Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation has nominated Dr. Pamela Carbiener as their Agency Champion for the AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) 2015 National Philanthropy Day Awards The awards luncheon was held Friday, November 20th at the Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach.

“Dr. Pamela Carbiener has been a champion for women and children in the Daytona Beach community for more than 23 years,” said Carolyn Sentelik, Executive Director of the Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation. “Dr. Carbiener is a dedicated local physician and community partner not only with the Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation, but with Volusia and Flagler Counties as a whole,” she added.

Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Carbiener co-founded COPE (Community Outreach to Prevent Eating Disorders), she has been involved in the Volusia County Medical Society and served as its third female president and continues as editor of the quarterly journal, Stethoscope.   She currently remains as a part of the Healthy Start coalition in an effort to improve prenatal care and access for all women of Volusia county, regardless of their ability to pay, and has served on numerous committees at our local hospitals. She has chaired The Daytona Women's Center and remains committed to increasing access to education and financial independence for non-traditional students.  She also serves on the board of The Floridian Foundation and serves as the Clerkship Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology for the FSU College of Medicine's Regional Campus at Daytona Beach, which enables her to train the next generation of socially-minded physicians. She is also the Medical Director for the Sexual Assault Response Team that provides immediate, complete and compassionate care for victims of assault.  Most recently, Dr. Carbiener has been active in the study of pregnant women who are addicted to opiates and the best mechanisms to provide care for this growing population in our communities.

In 2009, Dr. Carbiener formed the Daytona Blues Festival, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that organizes a three-day Blues music festival in downtown Daytona Beach.  Blues fans from 23 states and four foreign countries attend the annual festival which is known for raising significant funds each year.  In five years, the Daytona Blues Festival has raised more than $105,000 for charities benefiting women and children in Volusia and Flagler counties. Since its inception, the Daytona Blues Festival has contributed more than $30,000 toward facility upgrades to the Stewart-Marchman-Act Project WARM (Women Assisting Recovering Mothers).  These funds have been used to purchase new furniture and other much-needed upgrades for the women and children housed at the Vince Carter Sanctuary. In 2015, Dr. Carbiener joined the Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Other Agency Champions included Jim and Pat Bernard for the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, Ron Nowviskie for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties, Bobby Thigpen for the Daytona State College Foundation, Paula Gregory, for the FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools, Lloyd Bowers, Esquire for The Peabody Auditorium Foundation, Inc., R. Brooks Casey, Esquire for WORC, Inc., Charles Lydecker for Volusia Flagler Family YMCA, Richard Nisbett for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Rev. Dr. James G. and Sabrina Patterson for the Duvall Homes, Elaine Gonsalves for Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation, and Ron and Diana Tortelli for Flagler County Education Foundation. The Guild of the Museum of Arts and Sciences for the Museum of Arts and Sciences. The Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist award went to the Root Company for The Arc Volusia and Bobby Thigpen was named as the 2015 AFP Philanthropist of the Year.
