By: Ural Federal University, Russia The application to host IYPT was prepared by the UrFU Vice-Rector for Science Vladimir Kruzhaev. He hopes that the team of UrFU Lyceum, which is now preparing to take part in the National Competition of Young Physicists, will also participate in IYPT. For many years the teams of UrFU Lyceum have been participating in the National tournaments and have already represented Russia at IYPT in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Finland, and Ukraine. The International Young Physicists' Tournament was founded by the physicist Evgeny Yunosov in 1988 in Moscow. It is a competition of high school students in the ability to solve complex research problems and present the solutions in scientific discussions. About 25-30 teams from all over the world participate in the tournament. They are given one year to prepare solutions for 17 different tasks. In August 2013 the organizers of IYPT received the medal of the International Commission of Physical Education (ICPE). One of the most prestigious awards of the tournament has been the Lenin Komsomol Prize in the field of physical education (1989). This is not the first time Ural Federal University is involved in organization of high level competitions. In June 2014, in collaboration with the government of the Sverdlovsk region and the administration of Ekaterinburg, UrFU hosted the final of The ACM-ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest, which brought together 122 teams of students from 44 countries.
