By: Know Gallery Screaming Art Deals at Know Lodge in Downtown Oakland The Know Collective began in 2004 as an Oakland based micro radio station. Over the last decade they have produced art shows, plays, performance pieces, Youtube content and concerts. They are proud to offer a new art lodge for creative minds to congregate. The new space is the brainchild of local curator Joseph Lucas and street artist Bud Snow. Owner of Know Lodge, Bud Snow is a muralist and studio artist, with public work from Canada to Long Beach. Head curator Joseph Lucas is an Oakland based curator and promoter that has staged shows at Abco, Liminal Artspace, Mama Buzz Café, This Party Blows, and most recently, Naming Gallery. The Know Lodge opens its gallery doors on Dec. 4th with a nine artist group show titled “Hundred Dollar $tore”. “The concept comes from a conversation I had with J. Otto Seibold a few years back” says Joseph Lucas, “Jotto wanted to transform the infamous Telegraph Dollar store that has been defunct for years, into an artspace for affordable works.” The Know Lodge is not inside the abandoned Dollar Store, however, offers the concept to its new space, encouraging the community to invest in artists and artwork this Holiday Season. WHAT: Grand Opening of Know Lodge featuring “Hundred Dollar Store” WHEN: Friday, December 4th, 6-10pm WHERE: Know Lodge, 375 15th St. Oakland, CA 94612 ARTISTS: J. Otto Seibold, Deadeyes, Rocky Angel, Bud Snow, Chaves, NINA, Chris Granillo, Tututs, Alan Grizzell “Its an interesting time for art history as so many artists are working outside. We are writing new chapters, and many of the artifacts are ephemeral. To take a piece of the Oakland streets home with you, is like playing host to an important piece of history" says Bud Snow. "And at a time of year that is so corporate, so diluted with products and advertising, we wanted to offer these options to our community. Just as viewing art is a good investment of your time, buying art is a good investment of your dollars." The inaugural show features affordable original work from local Bay Area gems. Everything in the show is “A Benjamin or less, even some Ulysses S. Grants, and Andrew Jacksons,” says Lucas. About the Artists: J. Otto Seibold, illustrator of such books as “Olive, The Other Reindeer” and “Mr. Lunch”, who had a retrospective earlier this year at the Jewish Contemporary Museum in San Francisco will be present in the show. www.jottodotcom.com Street painter, studio artist, and visual activist, Deadeyes, with themes of Black Futurism in his work, has cultural priorities. Community access is our top priority”, says Lucas. “It’s about the experience, without needing to buy into it. This space is just as much for someone who is not buying art as it is for someone who is buying art.” End
