Follow on Google News | Free Skate Lesson Week Hits Over 2,000 Parks January 2ndGoSkate.com Skateboarding is holding first-annual week of complimentary skateboarding lessons nationwide, January 2nd-9th.

Since 2009, GoSkate.com has provided nationwide instruction to over 20,000 skateboarders from Hawaii to Maine to Florida. The first-annual Free Skate Lesson week is to get more people involved in skateboarding. Go Skate anticipates over 4,500 people will take part in the program. Each student will receive a free skateboard lesson with a Go Skate Certified teacher. Free lessons will be given in a 1-on-1 or class setting. Lessons are available for all ages and abilities. Lessons at private parks are subject to availability, park rules, and park fees. Public parks and driveway lessons are available at no cost. The details are that there will one free lesson given per household. Minors must have their parent or legal guardian (21 years old and up) authorize sign up. Kids must be four years or older. Lessons booked January 2-9th must be scheduled within 60 days. There is a 10 day window from sign up date to schedule and process paperwork. Lessons will start after this window. Skateboarders must wear a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads. Equipment rental packages are available for a fee. Skateboarding is a great activity for people of all ages. It has experienced a renaissance since 1999 when Tony Hawk landed a 900 spin at the XGames. There are over 10 million skateboarders in the world according to a report by Transworld Skateboarding in 2006. The necessary skills taught in the lessons are how to fall, how to push, balancing, turning, and stopping. An equipment review and safety session will also be included. The lessons focus on skateboarding fundamentals. The fundamentals are the basics most tricks are built upon.
