Nov. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- Once again the trusted services of TFM Removals have been called on to ensure the safe and professional relocation of a grand piano. Whilst great care was required, and given as is always the case with the work the company carries out, this assignment stood out more than usual. In this case the grand piano being moved was a Steinway. Over the last 150 years the Steinway name has been established as representing excellence and prestige in the world of pianos - something reflected in the value of them.

TFM were called on to move the Steinway, along with several items of high value antique furniture and a collection of crystal glass ornaments, during late October 2015. The move was of a distance of over 160 miles from Essex, and made all the more difficult by the fact that Force 9 winds were measured on the day, meaning winds at a speed of over 40 knots had to be contended with. The gale force winds had very serious implications for moving the Steinway to its new location.

Whilst moving a piano to a new location provides a challenge in itself, often the place where it is to be moved to can make the task all the more difficult. TFM are the company called on when the move will clearly be complex. Whereas one of their previous assignments saw them move a grand piano to a Thames island address without the benefit or ease of road access, in this case the requirement was to not only move a Steinway grand piano, but also to ensure it was located on the 2nd floor of a building. It was of the greatest importance that the move was carried out in such a way that not only was damage avoided, but also that it remained correctly balanced.

To understand the immense scope of that requirement it helps to know some information about a Steinway piano. Whilst most would know that it is the piano of choice for virtually every famous pianist for over a century, the details of what makes it so special are perhaps less well known. To ensure perfection, each Steinway is handmade at one of only two locations - Germany and New York. Around 300 people are involved in the year long process to construct a Steinway, and a grand piano features over 12,000 separate parts.  Whilst this is what makes them such a magnificent instrument and explains why they are of such a high value, it also means they are extremely delicate items - ones that should only ever be moved by experienced professionals.

TFM called on all of their skill, knowledge, experience and expertise to ensure that the piano was perfectly placed in its new home. With careful planning an controlled, professional operations, a window from the building was removed in order to allow a crane to lift the piano up and through. The slightest error or deviation from the plan could have spelled disaster. Thankfully these are factors which do not happen when the TFM team are involved. In this case, the perfect removal work has been reflected in the perfect, public review the client was delighted to give the company.

A piano is usually one of the largest, most delicate and certainly most expensive items in a house that would require moving. In most cases - certainly when it is a Steinway - the piano is not so much priceless as it is unique and irreplaceable. Time and again, as was the case here, TFM have proven to be the team trusted to handle expensive grand piano removals.
