Follow on Google News | Arte, the European Culture TV Channel, now available in EnglishBy: Arte Strasbourg, Tues 17th November 2015 ARTE in English, ARTE en español ARTE, the European culture channel, now available in English and Spanish ARTE, the Franco-German culture channel for Europe, is setting out to conquer new audiences. As of 17th November 2015 ARTE becomes quadrilingual: The launch of this new free offering has been made possible thanks to co-funding from the European Commission as part of a pilot project. This move marks an important milestone for the channel, which can now reach out to larger audiences and treat them to unprecedented access to high-quality TV programmes broadcast in Europe. This free offering in four languages will be available simultaneously throughout Europe and – for a selection of programmes – all over the world. Some 55% of Europeans will now be able to watch the channel in their mother tongue. Every week, web users will be able to discover a dozen or so hours of new programmes in four languages. This diverse offering will include a selection of cultural, investigative, and scientific documentaries. Web users will enjoy regular updates from the channel’s flagship magazine shows: Tracks, dedicated to countercultures and emerging arts; ARTE Reportage, focusing on European and international news; and Metropolis, the European cultural magazine. Web productions will draw the public into the world of digital production, which ARTE has been exploring, successfully, for several years. The ARTE Concert strand will feature live performances of music, dance, theatre, and opera. ARTE in four languages will also be available on connected TV sets as of December 2015. The Programmes ARTE in English and ARTE en español will be available online. They will feature subtitled versions – in English and Spanish respectively – of a selection of 600 hours of fact-based European programmes, excluding the channel’s newscasts, drama and films. This selection of programmes will encompass ARTE’s flagship magazine shows, including web programmes, a large number of documentaries embodying the channel’s editorial line, and live recordings of performances. An average of 11 to 12 hours of new programmes will go online each week, for 7 to 90 days. The programmes will be renewed on a regular basis and will feature a solid baseline catalogue.
