Daintree Dominates At Queensland Tourism Awards

DAINTREE, Australia - Nov. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- The Daintree Discovery Centre won gold in the categories of tourist attraction and the Steve Irwin Award for ecotourism, while Ocean Safari claimed the prize in the tour and transport operator category and Cape Tribulation Beach House Resort for standard accommodation.

Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree executive officer Tara Bennett said to receive four gold awards from the one region highlighted the level of dedication and professionalism of these industry leaders.

She also congratulated Mossman Gorge Centre on its silver win in the cultural tourism category.

“The Douglas region continues to set the benchmark with world-class tourism attractions and it is so wonderful to see these operators’ hard work recognised at these prestigious awards.

“Many have reported their best year since 2007 as we continue to see strong visitor dispersal across the region with the Daintree Rainforest one of the must do destinations.

“Daintree’s dominance helped Tropical North Queensland’s award tally reach 19, while also making this very unique and special part of the world the most awarded region on the night. A big congratulations to all entrants and award recipients.”

Ms Bennett said it capped off a winning month for the region with Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree also the recipient of the Queensland Multi Media Awards’ best tourism online marketing campaign for Show Me Your Paradise.

Daintree Discovery Centre’s marketing manager Adam Smith said it was a thrill for the Daintree Discovery Centre to be recognised once again by the state’s top tourism bodies not only for its work in ecotourism, but also as a fun, professional and exciting tourist attraction.

“Founding directors Pam and Ron Birkett began this world-class facility 26 years ago and the continued industry recognition is a true testament to the vision they have for sustainable ecotourism,” he said.
