Alzheimer’s Association, Orange County to Host Memorable Evening

Annual Open House Event and Art Exhibition Embraces Holiday Magic

IRVINE, Calif. - Nov. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- The holiday season is traditionally marked by special moments with family and friends, but for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease it can be a tragic reminder of memories lost. Fortunately, through art, some of those with memory loss disorders can still connect with their memories and emotions.

Alzheimer’s Association, Orange County (AAOC) (http://www.alz.org/oc) invites the entire community to attend its annual Holiday Open House and Art Exhibition, sponsored by Silverado (http://www.silveradocare.com/enriched-living/), on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at its headquarters, 2515 McCabe Way in Irvine. The open house is intended to not only raise awareness of AAOC’s essential programs and services available at no cost to Orange County families, but also be an enjoyable evening with holiday refreshments.

“During the holidays, families affected by Alzheimer’s need to know they are not alone and have options when battling this terrible disease,” said Jim McAleer, president and CEO of AAOC. “We invite the Orange County community to come learn about our resources and get to know us on a personal level. We welcome all guests, including individuals and families who already are involved with us, as well as anyone who wishes to learn more.”

The festive event will also include an inspiring art show featuring pieces created by Orange County residents with Alzheimer’s or other dementias through AAOC’s Memories in the Making® program. AAOC’s nationally recognized therapeutic art program was created in Orange County in 1988 and has now been adopted by other Alzheimer’s Association chapters throughout the country. Through this innovative program, patients with dementia can express themselves through the power of art.

Paintings created through the unique program will be on exhibit, framed and available for purchase during the Holiday Open House. Proceeds will benefit Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Eight Orange County artists also were chosen to create a paired companion piece inspired by a Memories in the Making® painting.

There is no cost to attend, but guests are encouraged to RSVP by emailing eventsOC@alz.org. For more information, visit alz.org/oc, call (949) 955-9000 or email EventsOC@alz.org.
