Don’t miss this featured segment on The Balancing Act:

Behind the Mystery of Rare Type of Pulmonary Hypertension

This special edition will bring attention to a rare life-threatening medical condition with symptoms that are easily mistaken for other conditions – CTEPH, a rare type of pulmonary hypertension (PH). In CTEPH, a thrombus (clot-like mass) gets stuck to the lung’s blood vessel wall and blocks blood flow.  CTEPH is frequently under-diagnosed and frequently under-treated. The most common symptoms are shortness of breath with exercise/activity, fatigue and tiredness or weakness – and a depressed mood. It’s difficult for a doctor to tell that one definitely has CTEPH based on symptoms alone, because they are similar to those of other conditions such as pulmonary hypertension (PH).  If a doctor suspects CTEPH, one would undergo specialized testing. After confirming a CTEPH diagnosis, your doctor will discuss treatment options, including surgery. Learn more about its diagnosis, symptoms and risk factors.  Viewers will also hear from a patient who is living with this condition – his story and his journey.
