MAPLE GROVE, Minn. - Nov. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- PrairieCare Medical Group, providing specialized psychiatric services for patients of all ages in the Twin Cities since 2005, has received an Innovation in HealthCare Award from HealthPartners for its Psychiatric Assistance Line (PAL).

Patients and primary care clinicians have limited access to psychiatrists. PAL is designed to ensure that Minnesota’s patients and clinicians have immediate and free access to psychiatrists and other mental health professionals. A collaboration between PrairieCare Medical Group, the Minnesota Department of Human Services and Fast-Tracker, the free service is available Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm by phone and online.

Those who utilize PAL have access to triage social workers who can connect patients/clinicians with local resources. In addition, treating clinicians can consult with an experienced child and adolescent psychiatrist who can offer suggestions regarding next steps in diagnostic clarification or, when appropriate, the role of psychiatric medications or other interventions. A primary care provider responding to a routine PAL follow-up survey noted that “In just 15 minutes, I got at least 3 new ideas to help me manage my patient.”

PrairieCare Medical Group consists of clinicians including child and adult psychiatrists, advance practice nurses, neuropsychologists, psychologists, a broad range of psychotherapists and more.
