ST. MICHAELS, Md. - Nov. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- One of the most recognizable icons of Chesapeake Country is featured in a new silkscreen print by Erick Sahler Serigraphs Co. of Salisbury, Md. The limited-edition print will debut Friday, Nov. 27, at shops in Cambridge, Oxford and St. Michaels.

“Hooper Strait,” a 10-color screen-printed image, shows the Hooper Strait Light as it stood marking the northern entrance to Tangier Sound. In the distance, a crew sails a Chesapeake log canoe under a yellow sunset sky.

The print is the 23rd in Sahler’s “My Hometown” series celebrating the places that are special to Delmarva residents and visitors. In 2012, Erick Sahler created a print marking the newly opened Choptank Lighthouse in Cambridge, and in 2014 another of his prints saluted the Oxford Ferry. Both editions are sold out.

Sahler said he had numerous requests to honor the iconic Hooper Strait Light, now the featured attraction at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels.

“Originally constructed 5 miles offshore in 1879, Hooper Strait was one of dozens of screw-pile lighthouses that dotted the bay. Today only three survive, but they remain an enduring symbol of Chesapeake country. My artwork returns the Hooper Strait Light to its original base, as it stood for decades marking the entrance to Tangier Sound,” Sahler said.

The image, which was designed and hand-printed by Sahler, is 16 x 20 inches. There are 145 prints in the edition and it sells for $85 unframed and $135 framed.

Prints will be available beginning Friday, Nov. 27, at Sunnyside Shop, 500 Poplar St. in Cambridge; The Treasure Chest, 214 N. Morris St. in Oxford; and Pemberton Pharmacy & Gift, 204 S. Talbot St. in St. Michaels.

All serigraphs by Sahler are printed by hand in his Salisbury studio using Earth-friendly archival inks on acid-free paper.

Sahler, 48, is a Salisbury native who graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a bachelor’s degree in visual and performing arts. A member of the Society of Illustrators, he has created commercial artwork for clients across the Eastern Shore since 1983.
