October is Orthodontic Health Month

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Nov. 15, 2015 - PRLog -- Vancouver, BC – When your children think about October, trick or treating and endless candy and treats probably come to mind. But for an orthodontist, the month takes on a different meaning. October is Orthodontic Health Month, and many orthodontists use the month to offer free screenings for potential patients.

Vancouver orthodontist Dr. Aly Kanani will be offering free braces screenings for potential patients during the month.

Orthodontic health is important to a patient’s oral health. Crooked and overlapping teeth can be hard to clean, leading to tooth decay. Additionally, poor bites can cause issues with speaking and chewing, and abnormal bite patterns can lead to breakage and chipping.

It is recommended that patients see an orthodontist for the first time by the age of seven. While many patients won’t require treatment at this age, an orthodontist will be able to continue to monitor the patient’s growth and begin treatment at the right time to ensure the best outcome.

Options for correcting orthodontic patients can become limited as a patient waits too long for treatment, or can make treatment more complicated. Adults who wait too long may require jaw surgery during the course of treatment, whereas adolescents have jaws that are still growing, so their mouths will be more receptive to tooth movement.

When addressed at precisely the right time, an orthodontist can provide patients with a beautiful, healthy and functioning smile that will last a lifetime. This can in turn save patients time and money on additional treatments that may be required as a result of waiting too long for treatment(http://www.bcorthodonticsgroup.com/).

More than four million people throughout Canada and the U.S. are currently under the care of an orthodontist. Not only does orthodontic care improve the health and function of a patient’s bite, it can also improve a person’s self-esteem, giving him the confidence to smile bigger.

To learn more about what orthodontic care can do for you or your child, don’t miss out on Orthodontic Health Month and free braces screenings.
