DORCHESTER, Mass. - Nov. 20, 2015 - PRLog -- On Wednesday, December 2, 2015, Cooking for Success, a fundraiser in support of the Salvation Army’s Culinary Arts Training Program, will take place at the Kroc Center at 6:00 pm. The Kroc Center is located at 650 Dudley Street, Boston, MA, 02125. Musicians from as local as Cambridge and as far away as Louisville, Kentucky will be coming together to craft music in support of this common cause. There will also be  savory refreshments prepared by the program’s chef and students!

Ever since bringing the Culinary Arts program to the Boston area in January 2014, instructor and chef Timothy Tucker has looked for a way to raise the funds it urgently needs, while tapping into his philosophy of the healing power of food and music.

Serving low-income members of the Dorchester and Roxbury communities, the Culinary Arts Training Program aims to instruct students in all the skills needed to begin a career in the cooking industry, as well as tutoring them in life skills that could benefit them in both their professional and private lives: “We couldn't be happier because through the program, we are changing lives by teaching and in the action of cooking great food,” explains Chef Tucker. “93% of the students who have started our program have graduated, and 85% of our student grads are now currently working or going to school." The culinary program is offered free to the students, yet it still lacks the crucial funds to be sustainable. The ticket prices for this event are only $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

About the Musicians

DINTY CHILD is an accomplished singer and multi-instrumentalist. He is a founding member of Sessions Americana, a celebrated Boston-based band that Rolling Stone magazine listed as a must-see live act in September, and is a performer at the Miles of Music Camp for musicians at Three Mile Island during the summer.

Singer, violinist, and songwriter LIZ HANLEY is a member of the band Frogbelly and Symphony. Liz plays in the band Emmanuel and The Fear. Liz is part of a network of Irish traditional musicians who collaborate in a multitude of ensembles and many of these players appear on Liz's solo recording The Ecstasy Of St. Cecilia. Liz has performed at The Kennedy Center with Mos Def in The Amino Alkaline Orchestra as part of his Watermelon Syndicate.

RAY RIZZO is a drummer, singer, and composer. He is a member of the bands Mesiko, Frogbelly and Symphony, and Corporal. Ray has been a member of Days of the New, and he has played and recorded with Trixie Whitley, Glen Hansard, and Yo Yo Ma on the Grammy-winning recording Songs of Joy and Peace. He established Motherlodge Live Arts Exchange and recently played and sang at Lincoln Center with longtime friend Dawn Landes.

JEFFERSON HAMER has been a part of the New York City folk scene since 2008. His most recent album is Child Ballads (2013, Wilderland Records),  arranged and performed in close duo collaboration with acclaimed singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell. The album earned a BBC2 Folk Award in the Best Traditional Track category, and was named one of NPR’s top-ten Folk and Americana releases of 2013.

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist TYRONE COTTON grew up in Louisville, Kentucky where music was ever present in his household. His grandfather was a Baptist preacher with a rough, beautifully arresting singing voice that grabbed Tyrone’s full attention at a young age, and by 15 he was playing in garage bands and studying the writings of Langston Hughes. Tyrone has performed at the Kyoto International Folk Festival and toured Japan four times.
