October sees cement & clinker FOB prices fall 4% in Med Basin and 10+% in Middle East

GREENWICH, Conn. - Nov. 13, 2015 - PRLog -- The Med Basin and the Persian Gulf – Arabian Sea cement and clinker October monthly bulk FOB, prompt delivery cargo price assessment shows significant downgrades.

“A backdrop of an appreciating USD is creating a string down-draft for internationally traded cement and clinker in a broad sense. But additionally, exporters in the Med Basin and Persian Gulf - Arabian Sea continue to compete fiercely for the same – and in some cases shrinking - markets - a fact reflected by price declines in both regions” explains Raluca Cercel, Consulting Analyst with the CW Group’s European team.

Med Basin cement bulk FOB declined by 4.3 percent MoM, while the Persian Gulf – Arabian Sea region saw prices facing a double-digit decrease. For OPC-grade clinker the trend was similar with a  negative price direction FOB bulk cargoes, for both regions: a 0.8 percent MoM contraction for Med Basin exporters, while Persian Gulf - Arabian Sea countries saw clinker export prices fall by close to 10 percent MoM.

Lower traded volumes to East African ports are negatively affecting pricing to this region. Multiple factors are changing the dynamics in East Africa including announcements by producers in Mozambique to export cement, Tanzania’s struggle with cement oversupply, both heavily impacting Pakistan’s export volumes.
