NEW YORK - Nov. 12, 2015 - PRLog -- “Auditions, Zoe’s Auditions,” winner of the United Solo Theatre Festival’s “Audience Award” as New York’s favorite solo show, returns for an encore performance at the United Solo for one night only on Thursday, November 19th at 9 PM at Theatre Row, 410 W 42nd Street.  Written and performed by Suzanna Geraghty, “Auditions, Zoe’s Auditions” is a comic tale of hope, calamity and self-realization.

Following a sold-out tour of “Auditions Zoe’s Auditions” in Dublin and the UK, Geraghty is returning to New York, where it  first received audience acclaim in 2011. This heart-warming, comically uplifting tale features the lovable underdog character, Zoe, as a backstage worker who dreams of landing an acting job. A series of ill-suited auditions ensues, from “Riverdance” to “Spiderman” to being shot out of a cannon for a touring circus.  As she gets further and further from her dream job, Zoe discovers that she just might be getting closer to herself and the root of true happiness.

When asked by a BBC Producer why was her comedy, winning an Audience Award in the US and playing to sold out houses in Dublin and the UK so successful with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, Geraghty replied:

“I believe the show is about our inner lives, our hopes for happiness and the need to live an authentic life. It’s about our experience of being a human being which I believe supersedes our geography.” Geraghty continued “I also believe it is has to do with the characters resilience. It’s not that Zoe gets knocked down time and time again but the fact that she keeps getting back up time and time again which the audience finds endearing.” Geraghty was interviewed three times on the BBC about her hit comedy.

Geraghty was herself the archetypal struggling actor in New York, working as a waitress and bartender in between acting jobs when she had her “eureka” moment sparking the idea for this show.  “One day at the New York public library, a hardcover book fell off a shelf and hit me square on the nose – hard! I went to kick the book but missed and instead kicked the bookshelf and broke my toe. While rolling around the library floor in agony, muttering curses at the book, I finally opened it … and it changed my life.”

The culprit turned out to be a book, by Jacques Lecoq and described his ways for actors to create theatre as taught at his school in Paris. For years, Geraghty had longed to write her own show but is dyslexic. “With new found hope, and a sore nose, I hobbled home, sold the refrigerator and bought a ticket for Paris,” said Geraghty.

While attending the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris Master-Class Series for professionals, she started developing her inner clown called Zoe. “Auditions Zoe’s Auditions,” inspired by the Lecoq teachings and her love of Stan Laurel, Giulietta Masina in “La Strada,” Charlie Chaplin and Samuel Beckett, combines elements of farce, pathos, physical comedy and breaks down the “fourth wall.”  Members of the audience are integrated into the play ensuring each performance is unique.

The one-woman show is a comedic tour de force that runs 70 minutes and is suitable for children 9 years and up. Tickets are $19.25 (including a $1.25 theatre restoration charge) and are available at the Theatre Row Box Office, through www.telecharge.com and at 212-239-6200.
