“Money and rewards aren’t always the best motivational tools because they can turn a positive or supportive workplace culture sour. For salespeople, bonuses or vacation wins are often an inexpensive way to discourage loafing or the “it’s the holidays, and no one wants to buy” excuse. But this isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution,” explains Stack.

Stack’s LinkedIn Post, Methods of Motivation, helps employers and professionals discover happy mediums within the workplace when it comes to motivating peers and employees. One tip she offers is to consider both team and individual incentives that actually are respected within the workplace.

“Everyone and each company is different. A free vacation to Hawaii in a toxic work environment isn’t going to motivate productivity. Politics will be played and this type of motivator can actually slow down the work process. If a team or a specific employer really cares, for example, about having Mondays off or paid lunches every Friday, those types of motivators should be considered. Maybe even bonuses. The point of the post is to consider creative alternatives while looking at the solid data I present on leader experience to determine how and if to mix team and individual incentives.”
