FAIRFIELD, Calif. - Nov. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Some of the county’s most prominent African American organizations will kick-off the holiday season at the 3rd Annual Black Professionals and Business “Black and White Mixer” with music, food, drinks and recognition of one of the area’s most renowned educators, Dr. Ramona Bishop, Vallejo’s superintendent of schools.  The event is being presented by the Solano County Black Chamber and co-hosted by the Solano County Black Lawyers Association and the Solano Realtist Association, a local group of African American realtors.  It will take place on Tuesday November 17, from 5:30 to 7pm at the Ford-Lincoln car dealership, located at 3050 Automall Ct., in Fairfield.  Admission is free, but anyone wanting to attend must RSVP by emailing patrice@brandgov.com before the November 16 deadline.

Several elected representatives have been invited and are expected to make presentations, including Congressmen John Garamendi and Mike Thompson; Senator Lois Wolk; Assemblymembers Jim Frazier, Bill Dodd and Susan Bonilla; and all of the Solano County Board of Supervisors – Linda Seifert, Erin Hannigan, Skip Thomson, Jim Spering and John Vasquez.

"We are very excited.  This is going to be an elegant event with lots of opportunity to network; honor one of our community’s leaders and make some new friends,” says lead planner for the event K. Patrice Williams, JD, director of outreach and government affairs for the chamber and president of BrandGOV, a marketing and lobbying firm for organizations and corporations.

“Everyone is encouraged to wear black and/or white and come ready to have lots of fun,” she adds.

The event’s honoree, Dr. Bishop, has been with Vallejo Unified School District for four years. Since taking the job, she has led the district in efforts to raise student academic achievement and create a safe learning environment.  Throughout her career, she has won several awards for her work, including the California School Board Association’s Golden Bell Award  and a National Leadership Award for Vallejo’s Community Schools Program; Superintendent of the Year (2008) from the Association of California School Administrators; and the National Alliance of Black School Educators’ Ida B. Wells Risk-Taker Award (2010).  Earlier this year she was invited to be a speaker at the White House Rethink School Discipline conference.  She serves on several local and statewide boards, including the Solano Economic Development Corporation; the Vallejo Education and Business Alliance; and the California African-American Superintendents and Administrators.

The event is being sponsored in part by Ford-Lincoln Fairfield and will include information on the features of the new Lincoln MKX for any interested attendees.  For more about the celebration, please visit the Solano Black Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/solanoblackchamber.
