Follow on Google News | Black Chamber and Trade Groups Plan 3rd Annual Black Professionals and Business Holiday CelebrationBy: Solano County Black Chamber of Commerce Several elected representatives have been invited and are expected to make presentations, including Congressmen John Garamendi and Mike Thompson; Senator Lois Wolk; Assemblymembers Jim Frazier, Bill Dodd and Susan Bonilla; and all of the Solano County Board of Supervisors – Linda Seifert, Erin Hannigan, Skip Thomson, Jim Spering and John Vasquez. "We are very excited. This is going to be an elegant event with lots of opportunity to network; honor one of our community’s leaders and make some new friends,” says lead planner for the event K. Patrice Williams, JD, director of outreach and government affairs for the chamber and president of BrandGOV, a marketing and lobbying firm for organizations and corporations. “Everyone is encouraged to wear black and/or white and come ready to have lots of fun,” she adds. The event’s honoree, Dr. Bishop, has been with Vallejo Unified School District for four years. Since taking the job, she has led the district in efforts to raise student academic achievement and create a safe learning environment. Throughout her career, she has won several awards for her work, including the California School Board Association’ The event is being sponsored in part by Ford-Lincoln Fairfield and will include information on the features of the new Lincoln MKX for any interested attendees. The chamber advocates policies that improve business opportunities within the African American community. The Solano Realtist Association is under the umbrella of the the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). The national association was established in 1947 by twelve African Americans who felt the need to create their own organization to fight for democracy in housing for all races. NAREB is the oldest minority real estate trade organization in America. The current president for the Solano Realtist Association is Lynell Holden, a real estate broker and owner of Holden Homes Realty. The Solano Realtist Association continues to carry out the mission of NAREB, while educating and empowering our communities and promoting black home ownership.
