Southland Symphony Orchestra invites Community Musicians to PLAY!

ONTARIO, Calif. - Nov. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- Music Director Sylvia Lee Mann announces new opportunities for musicians from Ontario and the surrounding communities to become a part of the Southland Symphony Orchestra.

The 2015-16 Season is ready to begin, with the opening "Holiday Magic" concert on December 6th at 4pm at Bethel Congregational Church in Ontario, California.

Rehearsals take place on Saturday mornings, from 9:30 - 12 noon, beginning November 14th.

Dr. Mann, who established the orchestra in the fall of 2011, says, "We are opening up opportunities to musicians from all walks of life. Professionals, Free-lancers, Community players, Hobbyists, Students. All are welcome. We always welcome strings, and there are a few openings in the wind sections for qualified, committed players. "

Musicians interested in participating may inquire by emailing drmann@southlandsymphony.com. In the email, be sure to include a brief statement regarding instrument played, experience, etc, Also include all contact info,(name, address, email, phone).

Those who wish to play should plan on attending rehearsals beginning Saturday Nov, 14th. New players should arrive by 9am for the 9:30 rehearsal. Auditions may be scheduled by contacting Dr. Mann, or by coming to the first rehearsal, (with instrument, ready to play!).

Openings exist in all string sections.

Possible Concertmaster opening - requires orchestral expertise,and committment to entire season.

Wind section openings are more limited - but interested musicians may come and have an opportunity to be placed on the call list.

Community and Student member musicians are expected to attend all rehearsals, unless special arrangements are made in advance regarding an absence. Occasionally the orchestra is able to fill vacancys for particular concerts by utilizing professional musicians, but the SSO is primarily a community orchestra. Most of our musicians are volunteers.
