VIENNA, Va. - Nov. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Driving Aids Development Corporation (DADC), the Vienna, Virginia-based hand control manufacturer, has announced the winners of the Hudson Hornet Mobility Adventure door prizes from October’s Antique Automobile Club of America’s (AACA) Car Show in Hershey, PA. The DADC sponsored Adventure was in town promoting the restoration and adaptation of a 1952 Hudson Hornet convertible for driving events with disabled veterans and other disabled drivers at the wheel.

Each fall, Hershey is home to 2,500 antique and classic cars and approximately 250,000 visitors from around the world. Some come to see the cars and meet the owners, while others come to scour the Flea Market for those one or two parts they need to complete their own dream car.

“I have fond memories of going to the Show with my father,” said Cheryl Smith, Hudson owner, “I know he was there with us in spirit. He would have loved the Hudson collector from Canada who stopped by - when he learned we were short a hub cap he offered one from his private collection. The Hershey show and the kindness of its many visitors reaffirmed our vision.”

The Hudson originally belonged to Gene Smith, Cheryl’s father, a long time AACA and HET club member. He was mid-way through restoration when he suffered a stroke, leaving him paralyzed. When he passed, Cheryl and her husband decided to do something to honor his memory while inspiring others like him who have lost their ability to enjoy their passion for driving.

“So many people’s eyes lit up at the idea,” said Lee Perry, DADC owner, “And they wanted to help. One guy, a disabled, Vietnam Veteran, reached into his short stack of car paraphernalia and withdrew a transmission gasket kit in the original packaging and gave it to us. It was more than generosity, it was a destiny.”

Thanks to a timely article on classiccars.com (https://news.classiccars.com/hudson-hornet-restored-disab...), the Adventure was a popular spot amidst the 9,000 Flea Market booths. Visitors stopped by to learn more, make a purchase or a donation - 100% of which goes to the restoration.

Plus, everyone who paid a visit was entered to win a door prize – complements of some generous artisans whose art reflects their passion for cars.

Congratulations to the winners!

“A quarter of a million people visited Hershey to see the old classics," continued Mr. Perry, "But how many of them got to drive one? This is Gene’s lesson to me: life is short, but we can all leave a legacy. We could cash in on the Hudson, but that would be so anticlimactic. The Adventure is our legacy, our way of changing people’s lives. We’ll get it done, and with help we can make it happen a lot sooner. For sponsors, this is the opportunity to join us and leave a meaningful legacy of their own.”
