Tesla Model S speeds up to become a Self-Driving Car

Self-driving cars are considered to be the next best thing. And, the electric car-maker, Tesla, has accelerated its pace in making its cars autonomous. The “Autopilot” update has made it possible for Model S to change lanes and control speed.

Oct. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- Self-driving cars are the future. Almost every car manufacturer as well as tech-companies and internet giants are in the race of making a self-driving car. But, there is one automotive company who has put the pedal to the metal in the race.

With just a single software update called Tesla Version 7.0, Tesla has empowered its car to have an “autopilot” mode. It means that the cars can do the following things easily:

• Steering down the highway
• Changing lanes
• Adjusting speed in accordance with the traffic
• Scanning for parking space
• Alerting you about an available parking space
• Parallel parking

Nothing is Sudden

The software update is nothing out of the blue. Tesla’s mission is to develop technology that can enhance self-driving capability. As a step towards fulfilling its mission, the company had started installing its Model S with the following hardware:

• Forward radar
• Forward-looking camera
• 12 long-range ultrasonic sensors positioned to sense 16 feet around the car
• Electric assist braking system

Tesla has informed that its main intention behind the “autopilot” mode is to release the driver from the perilous aspects of driving. The company expects the “autopilot” mode to:

• Provide more confidence to drivers
• Increase road safety
• Easy highway driving

A Word of Caution

Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has asked users to make use of the software update with caution. He has informed that if a collision occurs, the driver will be liable and so it is important to remember that the update has not abdicated you of your responsibilities.
