Healy Consultants sees positivity in Nepal’s road to recovery

Nov. 3, 2015 - PRLog -- Nepal is home to the world's highest mountain and is wedged between two growing economic superpowers India and China, but it is one of the poorest countries in the world. The country is struggling to cope with ripple effects of the worst earthquake to hit in 80 years. The earthquake has affected eight million people, just under one-third of the population. The death toll was over 8,000.Nepal ministry estimated the economic cost to the country as at least $10bn (£6.5bn) - half the value of Nepal's economy.

In May 2015, international support rolled in led by Nepal's closest neighbours. India despatched 16 military and civilian aircraft, eight helicopters and 1,000 members of its National Disaster Response. Nepal's northern neighbour China provided a 62 member search and rescue team and pledged more than $10m to the effort. The Asian Development Bank has given $3m for humanitarian efforts and pledged another $200m for reconstruction work. Now the country is fast returning to normal life

As Nepal takes stock of the damage and plans for the future, business owners are hoping for the least disruption to their profits as possible. They know it will take time to rebuild, but they are hoping both the government and international donors will provide the support that is needed. The cost of rebuilding has been estimated to be US$5bn. The tens of thousands of people who fled in the immediate aftermath to check on family and homes outside the capital are beginning to return. Shops are open, streets are busy once again.
