Follow on Google News | Going For an ATV Ride With Your Kiddo? Helmet Is a Must-WearYeah, yeah, kids will be kids. But, parents should be parents, too.
By: Alviera 1) Teach them the importance of wearing a helmet There should be a valid reason why they should wear the ATV helmet. Explain to them why the trails are not-so-kid-friendly, but you are allowing them to ride an ATV because you want them to experience it. Tell them that wearing this important headgear is non-negotiable. It is actually a life-saving gear! These are precautionary measures. After all, as a parent, we are after our kids' safety. 2) Make sure that they understand the importance of wearing the helmet It is not enough that you explain to them why they need to wear a helmet. They need to fully understand that there will be instances of misjudgment on their and other riders' part. Some riders will skid to a halt and he or she might not be prepared for this. After convincing them despite them being extremely careful while on the road, let them observe other ATV riders so they'd know what you are saying. Observe them as well whether they are obeying your rules or not. 3) Preach and practice what you preach about wearing helmets Your kids love ATV rides, perhaps, because they see you ride one, thinking what a cool activity it is. Put simply, they are following your example so set a good example. Unless you show them that you yourself is wearing a helmet when you are riding your ATV they wouldn't understand its value. Always wear a helmet. Never let them see you without one as you traverse that trail. Further, you can only do so much. One thing that can make the process easier for the both of you is the sense of ownership. Involve them from the beginning. Let them choose their own ATV helmet. Let them find the coolest helmet that they can. Chances are, since they are the ones who chose it, they will wear it most of the time. They won't think that wearing a helmet is not cool and you'll have peace of mind even when you are not with them while they are riding an ATV. When buying a helmet, there is one important consideration – the fit. It should not be tight, but snug. It should perfectly fit your head and it should stay in one place. If it moves or shakes even the slightest when trying the helmet, it is not the perfect helmet for your kid. Also, don't make the mistake of choosing a helmet that's one size bigger as your kid will only outgrow it. Another must: buy a helmet that fits at this age! Remember, picking the right helmet means staying safe. Going for an ATV Philippines ride (http://www.alviera.ph/ End
