Highmark Continues the Tradition of Hiring Mt. SAC Alumni

WALNUT, Calif. - Oct. 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Professor Emeritus Max Lizarraga met with Fernando Altamirano, Director of Product Engineering and Quality at Highmark and was given a company tour of their new 110,000 square foot facility which opened in June 2014.

“Here at Highmark, we focus on the customer with a sense of urgency, accountability, quality-minded and integrity” said Fernando Altamirano. “We have had a good relationship with the Mt. SAC Industrial Design Engineering department, formerly known as Engineering Design Technology program. Mt. SAC and its faculty team have successfully prepared four previous students from Mt. SAC to become full-time employees of Highmark and we are thankful to Mr. Max Lizarraga for assisting us in securing excellent employees for the past six years.”

“When companies need employees, they need them fast and Mt. SAC is able to respond with qualified students or alumni regardless of the distance,” said Max Lizarraga, retired Mt. SAC professor for Industrial Design Engineering (IDE).

“Participating in local college student design competitions, such as Westec, instilled time management skills I utilize today,” said five-year employee and Mt. SAC alumni Matthew Dewey, Product Engineer who started as an Engineering Technician while still a student at Mt. SAC. “Taking the reverse engineering course also improved my skills for dimensions and reversing components here at Highmark.”

“The transition from a student at Mt. SAC to the world of work has been very rewarding because of the dedicated commitment from both educational staff and industry partners," said Mark Fontecha, Engineering Technician.
