Lee County School District Sells Over $1.5M on GovDeals.com

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Oct. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- The Lee County School District has been using the government online auction site GovDeals.com since September of 2004 and has sold over $1.5 million dollars worth of computer and electronic equipment.

The Lee County School District found GovDeals to be a good match for them because GovDeals provides the general public access to their items and makes it easy for individuals to place a bid. Also, “the customer service we receive is excellent and our questions and concerns are always handled quickly and professionally,” states Dr. Jim Short, Assistant Director of Technology Support for the school district.

Before using GovDeals, the majority of electronic equipment went directly to one of the district’s recyclers to be disposed of. This method of disposal created no additional funds for the county. By posting their items on GovDeals.com, the disposal of these items results in revenue being returned to the school district.

These much needed funds are then put back into the school district budget. The auction proceeds enable the school district to provide internship opportunities to students or recent graduates of technical education programs from local colleges and technical schools.

“We are very happy to provide hands on experiences to our interns refurbishing surplus computer equipment, developing strong customer service skills and a professional work ethic in a real world work environment. Several of the graduates from our internship program have been hired in technology related positions in and outside the District,” says Short.

The majority of equipment sold by the school district includes computer electronic items such as desktop and laptop computers, LCD projectors, printers, audio equipment, cables, and much more. Equipment that is declared obsolete is removed from service per the district’s recycling process. The items that are functional and of some value are refurbished and then sold on the auction website. Any items beyond economical repair are sent to a certified recycling center and disposed of per EPA guidelines.

Auctions for the Lee County School District are posted each Sunday at 6pm and are available for bid until the following Sunday.

All items up for bid can be viewed anytime by going to the district’s auction page at https://www.govdeals.com/lcsd. To place a bid, bidders must complete the free online bidder registration form by clicking “Register” on the GovDeals.com home page.
