Halloween in Ukraine. A New Holiday

In a week we are going to celebrate a mystical holiday, called Halloween. It’s also known as the All Saints’ Day. This is the day, when you can encounter ghosts, vampires, witches and all sorts of otherworldly spirits. It’s celebrated on the night from 31th of October to 1st of November.

Each American family decorates the house for this day and tries to make it as creepy as possible. The usual attribute of this holiday is a decorated pumpkin, called Jack, which scares the people around.

In Ukraine Halloween is similar to our holiday of Ivana Kupala, when evil spirits gather in the woods haunt the ones who are weak and fearful. That’s why it wasn’t difficult for this holiday to adapt in our country.

Halloween holiday in Ukraine is becoming more and more popular. Of course, in our country it doesn’t have such deep symbolic meaning and we rarely decorate our homes with some creepy things. For our fellow citizens, this day is a good opportunity to spend interesting and unusual evening.
