DOUGLASS, Kan. - Oct. 26, 2015 - PRLog -- The lifetime pottery and antique collection of Jerrye and the late Lt. Col.

Marvin Dillman of Texas – featuring a wide variety of Roseville and Hull art pottery, plus many

other fine antiques gathered over the course of a lifetime – will be sold at auction on Saturday,

November 21st, by Woody Auction, in the firm's new gallery at 120 East 3rd Street in Douglass.

“This sale contains the largest number of Roseville baskets and jardinières, complete with

pedestals, that Woody Auction has had the privilege to sell in one auction, and it's sure to catch

the attention of serious bidders,” said Jason Woody of Woody Auction, adding, “All items will

be sold to the highest bidder, with no minimums and no reserves.”

The Roseville Pottery Company was established in 1890 in Roseville, Ohio. It ceased production

in 1954. Though originally simple household pieces, the design of the pottery was popular with the American Arts and Crafts movement and pieces are now sought after by collectors. Hull Pottery began production in 1905 in Crooksville, Ohio. The firm quickly established a solid market and enjoyed an excellent reputation. Today, Roseville and Hull pieces are highly prized by collectors.

The auction will feature numerous beautiful Roseville two-part jardinières with pedestals. These

will include examples in the Bleeding Heart pattern, with blue tones (32 inches tall, the largest

Roseville jardinière and pedestal made); in the Bushberry pattern, with green tones; in the Apple

Blossom pattern, with mauve tones (impressive in size, at 30 ½ inches tall); in the Wisteria

pattern, with green and brown tones; in the Columbine pattern, with green and brown tones; and

in the Bushberry pattern, with green tones.

Nearly 30 Roseville and Hull art pottery baskets will come up for bid, ranging in size from 8 to

12 inches. A notable offering from Hull is a nice basket in the Bow Tie pattern, with pink and green tones (#B29, 12 inches tall). Roseville baskets will feature a slender basket in the Poppy pattern, with green and pink tones; and an oblong basket in the Pinecone pattern, with blue tones.

Roseville pedestal baskets will include lovely ones in the Cosmos pattern, with blue tones; in the

Pinecone pattern with a flower frog, with brown tones; in the Bushberry pattern, with green tones; in the Columbine pattern, with blue tones; and in the Apple Blossom pattern, also with blue tones.

Additional Roseville baskets will feature examples in the Waterlily pattern, with brown tones; in the White Rose pattern, also with brown tones; and in the Iris pattern, with blue tones. All range in height from 8-10 inches tall. One more Roseville jardinière needs to be mentioned here, for its rarity even more than its beauty: it's in the Futura pattern with gray tones, 6 inches by 9 inches.

Speaking of rare, this sale will be packed with scarce Roseville vases, some ball-shaped, some two-handled and some square. Ball-shaped vases will feature one in the Futura pattern, green, with colorful sphere highlights. A standout square vase is 10 inches tall by 5 inches wide, also in the Futura pattern, with green and blue tones.

Two-handled Roseville vases will be numerous, to include two in the Luffa pattern, with green tones; in the Banetta pattern, with green tones; in the Falline pattern, with green and brown tones; and in the Silhouette pattern, with brown tones. All are 6-8 inches tall.

Additional Roseville vases will feature examples in the Laurel pattern, with yellow tones; and in the Silhouette pattern, with blue tones. Also sold will be a rare, 10-inch-tall Rookwood art pottery vase, marked and dated 1882, with rich dark brown tones and with a blue and white floral décor.

The antiques category will be wide and varied, to include Carnival Glass lots (one of which is a rare Cambridge Inverted Strawberry chalice-shaped compote in green). Also sold will be an Ingraham kitchen clock with an elaborate oak case, 23 inches tall by 14 ¾ inches in width.

Other antiques will include a Royal Bonn-style china mantel clock in a cobalt blue Wyandotte case with floral décor and Ansonia works with pendulum; a French enamel three-panel triptych with figures, each panel 6 ½ inches by 7 inches and with solid metal backing; and a group of nine celluloid figural Aunt Jemima and Uncle Moses items (salt and pepper sets and a syrup pitcher).

Douglass is 35 miles southeast of Wichita. The gallery is a half-block from Woody Auction's main offices. In all, 357 lots will come up for bid. The auction will begin at 9:30 a.m. Central time. A preview will be held Friday, Nov. 20, from 4-6 p.m. “Make plans to attend now, before holiday season is upon us,” Mr. Woody said. “Many of these items would make excellent gifts.”

Internet bidding will be provided by LiveAuctioneers.com (bidders are encouraged to register a day or two ahead). Absentee bids will also be accepted. Absentee bids should be submitted with a written statement indicating the amount of the bid, and all bids must be received no later than Thursday, Nov. 19.
