Don’t Miss Final Newburyport ArtWalk of 2015 on Nov. 7th & Nov. 8th

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Oct. 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Fall colors and creativity fill the air at the last Newburyport ArtWalk of the year. More than 20 galleries and partner sites in this historic downtown Cultural District will offer special exhibits, artist discussions, demonstrations and more in a casual reception environment  on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 12-7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 8 from 12-5 p.m. The public is invited to take part in a free, self-guided walking tour, browse a variety of artwork in traditional and contemporary styles, meet the artists, get a jump on holiday shopping, dine, and soak in the North Shore’s abundant beauty.

A free brochure/map of all venues is available at participating galleries, the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, the passageway between State and Inn Street and at ArtWalk Partners’ locations.

Among the special activities planned for the November 7th and 8th ArtWalk are:

Studio 5:
Renowned portrait artist Ann Harter (formerly known as Ann Tucker) will be at Studio 5 drawing quick pencil portrait sketches that take 25 to 30 minutes each and cost $25 per portrait for one person. A professional singer and voice teacher, Ms. Harter has been drawing and painting portraits in New England for more than 30 years. The Walsingham Gallery: Come see a free demonstration of the art of Gyotaku printmaking with Jean Kigel on Sat., Nov. 7th from 12-4 p.m. Gyotaku is the art of fish painting that originated in Japan centuries ago as a way of documenting the size of the catch. In modern times, it has evolved into an art. Ms. Kigel, who studied in Japan, will demonstrate the unique process of this art form. Refreshments will be served and new works by the artist will be on display. 47 Merrimac Street, Newburyport

Connor Summers Gallery: Connor Summers Gallery is excited going into the holiday season with the addition of four wonderful artists. Marcia Hermann’s quirky interiors, Gordon Przybyla’s haunting figure studies, Janice Eaton Updike’s classic pastel still lifes, and Jeanette Griffith’s new abstracts all bring their own unique energies and talents to the gallery. Combined with gallery owner Cathy Connor’s acrylics and Michael Updike’s carved slate figurative, almost sculptural work, this is the can’t-miss show of the season. 46 Market Street, Newburyport

Sweethaven Gallery: Sweethaven Gallery is pleased to present “Treescapes” by featured artist Joan Kocak, which will run from Oct. 24 to Nov. 22, 2015. An opening reception will be held on Sat., Nov. 7 from noon to 5 p.m., where the public is invited to meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments. Sweethaven Gallery is also home to stunning landscape images of Newburyport and Plum Island by photographer Greg Nikas. 25L Inn Street, Newburyport

Indigo Artist Studio/Alan Bull Studio: Indigo Artist Studio will feature “Trucks, Stripes, and Monotypes,” the new work of three artists. Alan Bull will exhibit new truck paintings and have 2016 calendars for sale. Boston artist Maria Malatesta will show a selection of her Stripe Series, in which bands of color are carefully painted in horizontal layers to reflect colors found in the natural world. Fibers, wire, wax, drawing materials and a variety of papers are included in the new mixed media monotypes by Mary Arthur Pollak. The studio is a workspace for Ms. Pollak, which has an etching press to create her monotypes and is available for guests to explore. Paula Estey Gallery (PEG): Artist Miranda Updike opens at PEG on Friday, Nov. 6 at a Gala ArtWalk Kick-Off Reception from 5-8 p.m. Meet the artist and view her solo show “Crowd Pleaser” in the Main Salon, along with a collection of other great PEG artists. 3 Harris Street, Newburyport

Valerie’s Gallery: Valerie’s Gallery will celebrate the ArtWalk with a special in-store appearance of ceramicist Luke Chen from Rhode Island on Sat., Nov. 7 from noon to 5 p.m. The public is invited to stop by to see Mr. Chen’s handmade, functional platters, bowls, cups and teapots that feature whimsical birds, berries, flowers, maple and ginko leaves. 26 State Street, Newburyport

36 Liberty Street Studios: This shared studio features the work of artist E. Tobin Eckian, who will have her ethereal paintings on display, including new works and holiday cards, and digital photographer Kiki Larouge, who will host an open studio and serve champagne as part of her Beauty + Bubbles package  that celebrates portraits of contemporary women. 36 Liberty Street, Newburyport

Firehouse Center for the Arts: The Art Gallery will be open for ArtWalk on both Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m. “Paintings and Monotypes,” a solo exhibit of works by Peggy Badenhausen, will be featured. Market Square, Newburyport

Newburyport Art Association: Stop by the NAA for its Fall Members Juried Show, Part II on display from Oct. 30 through Nov. 21, 2015. 65 Water Street, Newburyport
