Film in Latin and Ancient Greek To Be Given Free to Every School and University In The World

A campaign to make a new film of Homer’s The Odyssey subtitled into 40 languages for free educational distribution has been launched with a five minute trailer of the first 21 lines of Homer’s epic poem in Ancient Greek

BROMSGROVE, U.K. - Oct. 21, 2015 - PRLog -- EX ITHACA CUM AMORE Oδύσσεια translates in to English as FROM ITHACA WITH LOVE THE ODYSSEY and the film, like its title is being made in a combination of Ancient Greek and Latin. To support its production a five minute trailer of the first 21 lines of Homer's The Odyssey in Ancient Greek has been produced: watch the trailer here http://vimeo.com/115172621.

Despite using two languages that no longer have any native speakers the producers are updating the story by nearly 3000 years and setting it the modern day. They hope that by bringing Homer, author of the oldest surviving works of western culture up to date and making it foreign in every language it will help foster inter cultural awareness and tolerance as well as making The Odyssey more accessible and relevant to modern cultures everywhere.

As the film will be given away free to every school and university in the world it is unlikely that its commercial release will make huge profits, this makes financing it difficult through traditional methods. To overcome this and fund the film the producers have launched a crowdsourcing campaign selling their last film The Mandrake Root and a book, Sardinia Baby! by the film’s director Malachi Bogdanov. The campaign, the book and trailers of The Mandrake Root and The Odyssey can be found at www.fromithacawithlove.com

The film will be shot in May 2016 on location in Sardinia where the trailer was made. It is also the home of the English born director and the location of The Mandrake Root, which is an English language adaption of a comedy by renaissance politician Niccolo Machiavelli who wrote the still used guide to statehood, The Prince.

In the film of The Odyssey the gods will speak Ancient Greek as will Odysseus when home in Ithaca but when he is lost in foreign lands he will speak Latin. Although the film is set in modern dress it will be faithful to the original story.
