This year will also recognize the significant contributions of women to the sport. The 2015 Colonial Cup has been designated as “Ladies Day at the Races” in recognition of the women who have supported the sport and to the many female jump racing giants. “Since the race was founded by a woman, and since women make up such a huge fan base for The Colonial Cup, we want to honor them with a special day of recognition,” The Colonial Cup was started almost 50 years ago by a visionary American sports woman, Marion duPont Scott, who led the efforts to create America’s first international steeplechase. And while there were many sponsors who provided assistance, Scott provided the resources to bring the international horses and their connections to America. The Marion duPont Scott Colonial Cup is named after its greatest benefactor. Race week and race day also celebrate the finest southern outdoor sports activities with a golf tournament held at the Camden Country Club on Thursday, November 19th to benefit the National Steeplechase Injured Jockey Fund. On Friday, November 20th, a Sporting Clays competition will be held at Joe Cantey’s Hermitage Farm to support the Retired Thoroughbred Foundation of South Carolina. And on race day, The Colonial Cup guests will be invited to an Outdoor Sports Festival held in the race course infield.
