13 Year-Old Author Wants Kids Around the World to Help Illustrate His Book

Oct. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- After 13 year-old, Tommy Pugh, saw his Aunt crowd-fund an inspirational children's book, he got an idea for his own.

"I wanted kids to know that although sometimes they may be in a negative time or mood, they always can be positive. You can always make something good out of something bad." Tommy's book lists negative statements that he then turns into positive affirmations.

Tommy's idea didn't stop at writing his manuscript, he wants to get other kids involved. His vision is to have kids from all over the world contribute illustrations, uniting them in an activity that encourages reflection, creativity and collaboration. A generous portion of the proceeds from the publication will be donated to the Los Angeles Children's Hospital program "Literally Healing" in the illustrators' name.

Tommy's Aunt and founder of Shine Your Light Books, Jessica Collaço, says they want to include all the art that is submitted to keep the unifying intention behind the book. "At first, I thought the project might prove too difficult, but I saw Tommy's enthusiasm and saw that it could really empower kids to come together to do something positive".

Kids ages 3-18 still have time to take part in the project. Shine Your Light Books will be taking submissions until 11/30/15.  Interested artists can find details about the project at http://www.shineyourlightbooks.com.

Tommy says "When I looked at the phrases I wrote, I felt good about me.  I hope it brings the same feelings to the readers."
