Launch of Muslims for Progressive Values' UPR Stakeholder Report on Sudan

LOS ANGELES - Oct. 13, 2015 - PRLog -- Muslims for Progressive Values has submitted its 2015 Stakeholder Report for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on Sudan to the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council for review at the 25th Session of the Working Group on the UPR to be held April 2016.

As an NGO with a UN consultative status, MPV raises awareness for human rights violations occurring in Muslim-majority countries and in Muslim communities in the West. This Stakeholder Report references Shari’a, international human rights law, and the Interim National Constitution of the Republic of Sudan to condemn human rights violations in Sudan. Since the last UPR cycle, Sudan has actively participated in improving the status of human rights by creating legislation and campaigns that condemn human rights violations. However, violations continue to occur at an alarming rate. MPV’s report examines violations taking place between early 2012 through mid-2015 in areas of freedom of expression, freedom of religion, women’s rights and gender equality, and Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) rights.

Along with the Report on Sudan, a social media campaign will be launched in the coming months to shed light on various human rights violations. It is our goal at MPV to bring awareness to these human rights issues on an international platform.
