Announcing Dates for 2016 Summer Community Service Programs for Teens

VISIONS Service Adventures Announces 2016 Season Launch & 28th Year of Teen Summer Programs

BOZEMAN, Mont. - Oct. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- October 7, 2015 - Bozeman, Montana VISIONS Service Adventures, an organization that has offered summer community service programs for high school and middle school students since 1989, recently announced the launch of their 2016 summer programs. For 28 years, VISIONS has focused on collaborative service work and cross-cultural living, helping teen volunteers understand a complicated world and learn meaningful ways to contribute productively. With a focus on robust and impactful projects, each program also features cultural immersion within the host communities- and adventure-based excursions.

VISIONS has officially launched the 2016 summer season; the programs and dates (http://visionsserviceadventures.com/programs) have been set, and the online application (http://visionsserviceadventures.com/teen-summer-camp-programs/availability) is up and running. To encourage early enrollment, and to make sure spots are reserved, those enrolled by November 30th receive a $200 tuition discount. The 2016 program locations include the Dominican Republic, Cambodia, Myanmar, British Virgin Islands, Peru, Nicaragua, Ecuador & Galápagos, Guadeloupe, Montana Blackfeet and Northern Cheyenne Indian reservations, Mississippi, and Alaska, along with two middle school programs.

“A VISIONS summer means closing the textbooks and experiencing life,” explains Katherine Dayton, VISIONS Executive Director. “By immersing yourself in a different culture, you'll break out of the boundaries that define your current school and social life and work on projects that create positive change in the world and in you.”

Many of VISIONS work projects are construction- and carpentry-based, with staff carpenters on hand to teach tool use and plan projects. They also have environmental and social service projects that include working with national park services and  kids and local elders. Each program has two to three work sites to choose from each day. Work projects have ranged from building homes and schools to running day camps.

“Service in the cross-cultural context allows middle schoolers and teens the opportunity to make a difference and, just as important, know the people whose lives they are impacting in personal, mutually respectful ways,” says Dayton. “We give students tangible ways to be challenged through ambitious service work, thereby developing resilience and self-confidence and realizing their potential in this world.”
