JALANDHAR, India - Oct. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Lovely Professional University Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences is hosting students from the University of Wolver-Hampton (UK) under student exchange program. Under two-week learning program UK students are to learn about the best of Yoga, Ayurveda, Indian health-care & well being practices and cultural awareness programs. In this regard, 18 B.Sc Public Health, Health Studies and Nursing students from the UK University are at LPU Campus accompanied by Head of Public Health Department & Principal Lecturer Dr Ranjit Khutan JP and Sr Lecturer Mrs Bhawna Solanki. The study program includes lectures, different activities at the LPU campus, and also visits to NGOs, local hospitals & other important areas. The UK students are enthralled to realize how their learning at LPU & in the UK can be applied internationally and in a professional health environment.

Welcoming UK students at LPU Campus, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal mentioned: “It is inspiring that UK students from one of our 50 partner foreign universities have reached LPU this time to learn about the best health care practices of India, in the context of modern day needs.  As part of the program foreign students are also to learn Indian culture by having wide interactions with LPU diverse student community.” Mr Mittal added: “We strongly feel that international students’ visit to LPU in India is an experience that each and every student of the world should have. I anticipate that UK students will imbibe experiential learning while being at LPU.”

This two week intensive course was developed by Dr Khutan of the UK University in partnership with LPU through its Associate Director Mr Aman Mittal of International Affairs. Dr Khutan, who is also a magistrate and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health, informed: “I had already heard so many positive things about LPU and during my last visit I discussed about partnership. The campus was so impressive, that I felt the UK students would enjoy and value this kind of visit, and indeed our students are having an excellent time, and have already learnt so much about novel Indian practices.  There are many Punjabi people living in Wolver-Hampton, so the things our students learn at LPU will certainly help them to provide better healthcare services to those living in the UK.”

One of the visiting students Caroline Mtambalika shares: “The study program is very interesting.  I did not know what to expect but LPU students, faculty and other people have been so very welcoming.  In addition to learning more about the Indian health system, it is also good to look at the difference in culture such as dress, spirituality and food.”  Rebecca Eaves, a student who has recently graduated and is already working in health system in the UK said: “Seeing and speaking to staff of 24 hours open University Hospital and a private Fortis Escorts hospital is a great experience. Here, we saw health policy and health promotion strategies in practice.  This knowledge will assist me within my role managing health care services for a diverse ethnic population at the Royal Wolver-Hampton Hospital, UK”.

In addition to the study program at LPU, the UK students are to enjoy visits to places of interest-the the Golden Temple at Amritsar in Punjab, Lovely Sweets & Wannabuy at Jalandhar, Tibetan Temple at Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh, Red Fort in Capital City New Delhi and the Taj Mahal in Agra (Uttar Pradesh).
