WASHINGTON - Oct. 1, 2015 - PRLog -- ACEhp (Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions) announced today its collaboration with BMJ to develop ACEhp SQUIRE-Powered by BMJ Quality. This customized version of the BMJ Quality platform is one of the educational tools ACEhp members are benefitting from due to the FCEhp (Foundation for Continuing Education in the Health Professions) Quality Improvement Education Initiative.  Developed by FCEhp, the Quality Improvement Education Initiative isat its core a multi-stakeholder collaboration created to help guide the transformation of the nation’s healthcare system through education.

“As healthcare delivery shifts from the volume of care delivered to the quality of care delivered, it is imperative that continuing education leaders pave a new direction that systematically integrates educational programming into quality improvement efforts,” stated Ed Dellert, RN, MBA, CHCP, President of ACEhp. “We are thrilled to collaborate with BMJ Quality on the ACEhp SQUIRE tool, which will not only help continuing education professionals’ better design and implement their education interventions, but ultimately will help demonstrate how continuing education can be successfully integrated into quality improvement.”

Dr. Carolyn Simpkins, BMJ North American Clinical Director said of the collaboration, “BMJ is delighted to be working with ACEhp, supporting the organization and its members in their work to provide educational interventions which improve the quality of healthcare across the country.”

BMJ Quality is an online workspace that supports individuals and teams to work through quality improvement ideas, make an intervention, and publish their results while developing their knowledge and skills. The platform was a 2014 e-learning award winner receiving Gold for “Most Innovative New Learning Product” and “Best Online Distance Learning Program”. Since its launch in 2013, BMJ Quality has guided thousands of teams and individuals step by step through projects leading to better patient outcomes.

The award winning platform provides healthcare professionals the structure to support their activity in the form of a workbook, an outlet to publish their work in the BMJ Quality Improvement Reports journal, and expert advice from international mentors. ACEhp members will have full access to all the features with ACEhp SQUIRE-Powered by BMJ Quality. Members who are interested in using the tool will need to apply for access through the Alliance.

“By bridging current gaps between continuing education and quality improvement initiatives within health systems, we have the ability to affect significant, measureable impact for patients, who increasingly will be managed under the auspices of value-driven care delivery models,” said Destry J. Sulkes, MD, MBA, FACEHP, President of FCEhp and Immediate Past President of ACEhp.

To educate the Continuing Education community on the value of ACEhp SQUIRE, ACEhp is hosting a free, three-part webinar series on quality and ACEhp SQUIRE. The first webinar will take place October 6, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM EST.  To learn more about ACEhp SQUIRE and register for the webinar series, visit the ACEhp website (http://www.acehp.org/p/cm/ld/fid=367).
