Twig Hockey Company Improves the Youth Hockey Stick

Offering 20, 30, and 40 Flex Models via Kickstarter Campaign

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Sept. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- Twig Hockey Company, launched early this year out of Grand Rapids, MI has launched their new Kickstarter campaign.  Their goal?  Make a better hockey stick for youth players weighing less than 100 pounds while keeping costs down for parents.  They’ve launched their new “Junior Twig” stick in flexes of 20, 30, and 40 with better fitting age/height appropriate lengths.  The sticks are constructed entirely of high-end Toray carbon fiber to reduce overall weight and improve response consistency and feature a junior size shaft and blade.

“After playing beer-league hockey for many years, a few of us got an itch to pursue bringing a high-end senior size stick to market at a great price,” Twig Hockey Company’s Nathan Wehner shares.  “We developed and tested a great product so we decided to start a campaign on Indiegogo earlier this year to make sure the market was there.  We ended up hitting almost 200% of our goal, which was great, but what spurred from the feedback and conversations we had with backers was “Hey, we have kids that play and the sticks available to them are really limited and the good ones cost a fortune.”

“So, we went back to the drawing board and said, ‘Can we get an equally beauty product out there for youth hockey players that will solve these problems for parents?’ and I think we’ve far exceeded our initial expectations.  It’s a really nice product.  It’s constructed entirely of super lightweight carbon, which is uncommon for the youth market as most companies opt to include less expensive, heavier materials, and our prototype users really love them.  So we said, ‘Alright, I think we’ve got a winner.  Let’s see if the market is really there for this.”

The Kickstarter campaign has just launched for the Junior Twig and the price points represent the various flexes.  A $70 donation gets the backer a 20 flex stick; $75 a 30 flex stick; and $80 a 40 flex.  There are also other combination packages to help parents save even more.  The sticks are being offered at a discount from their expected future retail price.

“Our main focus with the Junior Twig is on helping hockey parents out and getting their kids a really high quality stick that’s going to perform better without draining their bank accounts,” Wehner said.  “There’s no point in dumping a car payment on a 10-year-old, as they’re still trying to master the fundamentals, but you don’t want to lead them into any shortcomings by giving them an inferior product either.  So that’s really where our focus is: give youth players a proper fit, better performance, and still keep some money aside for team pizza after the game.”
