Colleges and universities toured were: Bentley University; Babson College; Brown University; Providence College; Wheaton College; College of the Holy Cross; Harvard University; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Salve Regina University. “College Bound” was one of 15 one-week electives all offered and facilitated from the Sacred Heart School campus this past summer. Courses were designed to meet the specific interests of students and better prepare them for future studies. Classes were taught by Sacred Heart staff, alumni, college professors, researchers, and other professionals in their fields. Summer course offerings included S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programs, theater, finance, forensics, visual arts, lacrosse, robotics, basketball and entrepreneurship. Some 200 students from 20 regional middle and high schools benefitted from the diverse electives. “Not only were students who participated in this exceptional program given the opportunity to briefly experience college life, tour campuses and assess which learning institution might be a good fit, they were also able to return home with literature and application material, bringing them one step closer in the college enrollment process,” said Pamela Desmarais, President of Sacred Heart School.
