AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. - Sept. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Girl Power 2 Cure (http://www.girlpower2cure.org), a nonprofit dedicated to Rett Syndrome, announced today that Roger Brooks has joined the organization to further develop its programs and lead operations. Brooks comes with a wealth of experience having worked as Safeguard's Executive Director of Training and Communications for the past six years.

Brooks, father to Juliana who suffers from Rett Syndrome, has been an active volunteer for the organization for over six years, serving on the Board of Directors and then as its chairman for the past four years.

His background, both professionally and personally, is a perfect fit for this organization that is poised for rapid growth in the near future. With a B.S. in International Business and his past work history, Brooks' depth of experience in leading remote development teams coupled with his business acumen will be invaluable.

Brooks is excited to be able to dedicate his full attention to helping girls suffering from Rett Syndrome and their families.

"I've been fortunate to experience the growth of GP2C over the last several years and it is inspiring. Families all over the world are doing incredible work on behalf of our girls and things are changing," said Brooks.

"When we received Juliana's Rett Syndrome diagnosis in 2008, it was devastating. In the beginning, everyone was focused on everything she wouldn't likely be able to do. But as a family, we started paying attention to all the incredible things she can do. One thing I know- our girls are smart and when given the right opportunities, they thrive. I have hope for all Rett families- that they too see and experience all the things their daughters can do. GP2C wants to walk this journey with them, helping them work towards giving their girls a quality life not only for the day-to-day needs, but through quality education and supporting top-notch research."

Ingrid Harding, Founder and President of GP2C, shares "As we approach our 10-year anniversary and look ahead to building capacity to help more families and raise more research funds, the timing could not be more perfect to bring on this role. Roger is personally committed to our cause as well as professionally experienced to steer us ahead and maximize our impact. We view his appointment as a sign of commitment to being a leader in our community."

Our inspiration is our flower:  always in bloom with hope and positive energy, ready to grow anywhere there is someone ready to join in our mission.

About Rett Syndrome:

Rett Syndrome is a severe neurological disorder that almost exclusively affects females. Every 90 minutes another little girl is born "normal," only to be robbed of her ability to speak, walk, crawl, and use her hands between the ages of 1 and 3. Complications include seizures, sudden death in their sleep and scoliosis.

Rett Syndrome is caused by a single spontaneous gene mutation that any baby girl has an equal chance of acquiring.  It is considered the most physically disabling of the autism spectrum disorders and is as prevalent as Cystic Fibrosis, ALS and Huntington's Disease. There is no treatment, but in 2007 researchers proved in the lab that Rett Syndrome can be reversed, giving it the potential to be the first curable neurological disorder and playing a key role in understanding other neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's, Schizophrenia and Parkinson's.
