KENT, Ohio - Sept. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- The Department of Accounting and Career Services Office of the College of Business Administration hosted Meet the Accountants Night at the Kent State Student Center on September 17, 2015.

A total of 291 current and prospective undergraduate and graduate accounting majors, MBA students and alumni met with organizations from the public, corporate, government and nonprofit accounting sectors. The event allowed students to practice making introductions, sharpening their interview skills and networking techniques all in an effort to help build their confidence and take the first step towards obtaining a summer internship and ultimately job placement in the accounting industry.

“Meet the Accountants Night is a traditional premier recruiting event for our accounting majors,” said Linda Zucca, Ph.D., associate professor and department chair in accounting at the College of Business Administration.  “Our employers were impressed by our students’ preparation for the event and their enthusiasm for learning more about the profession.  This is absolutely one of my favorite events of the year.”

Nearly 50 employers participated in the event, located in the Kent State Student Center Ballroom. Some of the businesses in attendance included the Cleveland Clinic, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, J.M. Smucker Company, JP Morgan and Progressive. Each employer will have the opportunity to extend first round interviews for accounting internships from Sept. 28 – Oct.2

“It was especially rewarding to observe students connecting with employers after having worked closely with the Career Services advisors to prepare and practice an elevator pitch and have their resume reviewed and critiqued,” said Amanda McNamee, assistant director for the College of Business Administration Career Services Office.

This year’s event showed an increase in numbers from last year, which had 244 student and alumni attendees and 43 employers. Next year’s Meet the Accountants Night will be Sept. 15, 2016. For additional information about the Accounting Department, visit business.kent.edu/departments/accounting.
