Boots To Birdies: BlazeSports America’s Adaptive Golf Program for Vets

By: Blaze Sports America

ATLANTA - Sept. 24, 2015 - PRLog -- Atlanta (September 24, 2015) – As one of its many life-changing adaptive sports opportunities for veterans with a physical disability, BlazeSports America offers Boots to Birdies, six-week golf training sessions culminating in a nine-hole tournament. Not only does BlazeSports provide instruction and adjustments to fit the golfers needs, the program is offered free of charge to these male and female veterans, which is an important feature since many of the participating vets live on a fixed income.

“Most of our golfers have never played before, so we provide all of the equipment,” said BlazeSports America Executive Director Cynthia Frisina. “There is great enthusiasm for this program. In fact, the numbers are so large that we will probably add a second day each week to accommodate all interested veterans.” Boots to Birdies has also resulted in BlazeSports partnering with the Georgia State Golf Association for coaching and playing opportunities.

“We’ve been thrilled by the response to the Boots to Birdies golf program,” Frisina said. “The friendly atmosphere of the sport provides an excellent way for veterans of all ages to enjoy each other’s company, the fresh air and even a dash of competition.”

Currently, Boots to Birdies meets on Thursdays at Heritage Golf Links, 4445 Britt Rd., Tucker, Georgia. The program is open to all veterans and active duty service members with a physical disability. For more information and registration: 404-270-2000 or www.blazesports.org.

Interested volunteers can contact BlazeSports America’s volunteer coordinator at volunteer@blazesports.org. The Boots to Birdies program also seeks donations of new and gently used equipment.
