Attorney Kelsey C. Burke Joins Murray & Guari Trial Attorneys

West Palm Beach, FL – Murray & Guari Trial Attorneys congratulates Kelsey C. Burke on her admission to The Florida Bar and is pleased to announce that she has joined their West Palm Beach based personal injury law firm as an Associate.

Ms. Burke earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University as a Bright Futures Scholarship Recipient and earned her law degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College of Law in Orlando. During law school, she served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Fay Allen and as Research Associate to Constitutional Law Professor, Randall Abate. She was also a member of the International Environmental Moot Court Team and interned for LatinoJustice PRLDEF.  Ms. Burke also previously worked as a law clerk and intake coordinator for major personal injury law firms in Palm Beach and Orange Counties.

Ms. Burke’s life and career have been shaped by her immigrant roots. She was born in Honduras and was raised in Palm Beach County from the age of 10. She is fluent in Spanish. After much effort, she was granted temporary protected status which enabled her to continue her education. Ms. Burke identifies herself as a DREAMer.1 In 2012, Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois told Kelsey Burke’s Dream Act story (http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CREC-2012-07-10/pdf/CREC-201...) on the floor of the United States Senate (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNkhv7rZRpE). The very morning Ms. Burke was taking her law school final exams in May 2014, Florida lawmakers voted to remove the obstacle related to her immigration status, allowing her to become a Florida lawyer.

Ms. Burke’s practice will now focus on personal injury and wrongful death matters. She will seek justice on behalf of victims of auto accidents, dangerous premises, and defective products.

1 The “DREAM Act” (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act) was a bill in Congress that would have allowed for certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children, who have lived and gone to school here, to gain a pathway to permanent legal status. Since 2001, several versions of the bill have been introduced in Congress, but it has never passed. Individuals who would have qualified under the DREAM Act are often referred to as “DREAMers.” The term DREAMer has a double meaning about the undocumented youth who have big hopes and dreams for a better future.
