Blockbuster Faculty Announced for ASA HSIG’s Two-Day Healthcare Advanced Valuation Course Session

 
Sept. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- A blockbuster faculty lineup is being assembled for the upcoming American Society of Appraisers Healthcare Special Interest Group (ASA HSIG) advanced healthcare valuation course session (visit http://www.appraisers.org/Education/View-Class?ClassID=3296), which will be held at The Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, on Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, 2015.

ASA HSIG Chair, Todd Zigrang, ASA, and ASA HSIG Chair Emeritus, Bob Cimasi, ASA, have announced that faculty headliners for this two-day, in-person educational course will feature renowned experts in the fields of health policy, health law, and health economics, including:

(1) Lisa G. Han, Esq. – A partner in the Columbus office of Jones Day, Lisa Han focuses her practice on transactional and regulatory matters for the health insurance and healthcare industries. She represents publicly traded and privately held health insurance companies, employers, PEOs, TPAs, PBMs, and other entities providing insurance support services in the health insurance and employee benefits area. Ms. Han also has significant experience representing healthcare clients in the formation of strategic alliances between hospitals and physicians, complex managed care contract negotiations, reimbursement issues between providers and payers, product and network issues, prompt payment compliance, audits and recovery, and regulatory compliance and audit. Ms. Han will be presenting on the reimbursement environment of the healthcare industry in an era of reform.

(2) John M. Kirsner, Esq. – A partner in the Columbus office of Jones Day, John Kirsner advises hospital systems, hospitals, large multispecialty and single-specialty group practices, clinically integrated organizations, accountable care organizations (ACOs), ancillary networks, and other organizations engaged in the healthcare industry throughout the United States. His substantive work focuses on issues surrounding formation and operation of healthcare organizations, transactional work (including purchase, sale, and M&A), payor/provider contracting, joint ventures, and other complex contracting arrangements. Mr. Kirsner has assisted in the formation and operations of more than a dozen clinically integrated networks. He has assisted clients in MSSP ACO activity as well as commercial ACO activity. He has assisted in the negotiation of shared savings arrangements and in the internal network distribution strategy among network providers. Mr. Kirsner will be presenting on the regulatory environment of the healthcare industry.

(3) Jack M. Beal, Esq. – A shareholder in the Kansas City office of Polsinelli, Jack Beal focuses his practice on healthcare corporate and transactional matters for a wide variety of provider types, in both the for-profit and nonprofit context. Mr. Beal’s client work includes day-to-day advisement on contracting and compliance needs. His contracting work involves drafting and negotiating a variety of healthcare contracts, including physician services and employment agreements, management agreements, and affiliation agreements. Mr. Beal’s compliance work encompasses numerous federal and state health law requirements, including EMTALA, Medicare provider-based regulations, Medicare 340B billing guidelines, and state licensing and practice regulations, with a particular focus on HIPAA (and the HITECH Act), the Anti-Kickback Statute and the Stark Law. Mr. Beal will be presenting on the impact of competitive forces.

(4) Hal Katz, Esq. – A partner in the Austin office of Husch Blackwell, Hal Katz practices in many facets of general corporate and transactional areas, such as the purchase and sale of businesses, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, reorganizations, franchises, joint ventures, management arrangements, employment and healthcare matters. Numerous businesses, governmental entities and nonprofit corporations rely on Hal to represent their interests in strategic planning and corporate governance matters and in handling all aspects of the startup and operation of their businesses. Mr. Katz is board certified in healthcare law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and a member of the firm’s Healthcare, Life Sciences & Education team. Mr. Katz will be presenting on healthcare technology development.

(5) Todd A. Zigrang, MBA, MHA, FACHE, ASA, is the President of Health Capital Consultants (HCC), where he focuses on the areas of valuation and financial analysis for hospitals, physician practices, and other healthcare enterprises. Mr. Zigrang has over 20 years of experience providing valuation, financial, transaction and strategic advisory services nationwide in over 1,000 transactions and joint ventures involving acute care hospitals and health systems. Mr. Zigrang is the co-author of the soon-to-be released “Adviser’s Guide to Healthcare – 2nd Edition” (AICPA, 2015), numerous chapters in legal treatises and anthologies, and peer-reviewed and industry articles. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and holds the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation from the American Society of Appraisers, where he has served as President of the St. Louis Chapter, and is the current Chair of the ASA Healthcare Special Interest Group (HSIG). Mr. Zigrang will co-present each of the other course sessions with the above faculty, and will be presenting on the current healthcare industry environment and the impact of healthcare reform.

This two-day, in-person event is a segment of ASA HSIG’s Multidisciplinary Advanced Education in Healthcare Valuation Program, and will be held on Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, 2015, at The Mirage Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, in conjunction with the ASA International Appraisers Conference.

Included in this course session registration fee is a personal copy of the two volume course textbook, entitled, “Healthcare Valuation: The Financial Appraisal of Enterprises, Assets, and Services,” by ASA HSIG Chair Emeritus, Robert James Cimasi, MHA, ASA, FRICS, MCBA, AVA, CM&AA (John Wiley & Sons, 2014). Additionally, significant resources contained in the course materials will be provided on flash drives - attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet to the course session to access the course materials.
