CHANDLER, Ariz. - Sept. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- In response to a bill recently passed by the Alabama State Legislature that requires each of its districts to provide virtual courses for high school students by the 2016-2017 school year, Alabama districts are choosing Odysseyware, a leading provider of online curriculum for 21st Century learners, to meet the new requirements.

Schools searching for online providers have discovered Odysseyware’s virtually limitless course customization functionality and credit recovery is the ideal solution to meet this new state mandate. Educators and administrators can easily personalize any course or unit to fit their district requirements and individual needs of students alike. Students have the freedom to work at their own pace and in a comfortable learning environment. Additionally, Odysseyware’s courses meet the Alabama Content Standards.

“Odysseyware provides flexibility outside the structure of a school master schedule.  We can offer classes anytime, even if they do not show up in our master schedule until the next school term. Additionally, Odysseyware’s credit recovery courses allow our students to quickly regain previously lost credits,” said Jeff McClure, Director of Alternative Learning at Pike County Schools. “This level of flexibility allows Pike’s students to either rejoin their graduation cohorts or at the very least accelerate the anticipated graduation date.”

“We are excited to partner with districts across Alabama to help them blaze the trail for online and blended learning. Ensuring our curriculum helps our partners meet mandates like this one is an extremely high priority for us,” said Odysseyware President Beth Te Grotenhuis. “With the balance of online curriculum, technology, instruction, as well as other support tools and resources Odysseyware is excited to support the needs and expand learning opportunities for Alabama students.”

“Here in Henry County we use our Alternative School (Virtual Campus) two ways. In the traditional school for students that are placed for discipline, and the other is our Innovative Pathways to Graduation (IPG) for our at-risk students,” said Chris Padget, Assistant Superintendent at Henry County Alternative School. “Each student has a different path they can follow through Odysseyware. Younger students will work at the Virtual Campus in their least restrictive environment which enables them to focus strictly on the curriculum in Odysseyware.”

The Alabama State Legislature, Superintendent, and Board of Education recognize there are thousands of students who can benefit from a personalized learning environment outside of the traditional school model. They also see the prominence of online learning in higher education so preparing students at a young age will be beneficial to their educational journey.
